I have both phones, as I got my S24U two weeks ago. Didn't do a trade-in. Have always had decent battery with my S22U (SD variant). The S24U battery is better. It's also smoother. But in high performance mode, the S22U will feel closer to s24U in smoothness. For the power user, raw performance stuff that I do on my phone: using Dex on 5G while sharing Hotspot. This would cause the s22U to get too hot and slow down and even freeze and restart. Doing this on the S24U, it doesn't heat up at all. This was my main reason for upgrading. For everything else, the S22U is a great phone.

Thanks for this honest comparison. I moved up from the Note 20 & that's why I bought the S24 Ultra. If I were coming from the S22U, the only reason I would have moved on the S24 U would have been the x5 Telephoto lens. In general photography, the x5 (115mm) is far more useful than a x10 (230mm), especially for portraits. And covering that range with a 50mp x5 generates far better images than a cropped 10mp x3...

I had an S22 Ultra for two years and recently switched to an S24 Ultra. I can tell you that when it comes to battery life, the S24 Ultra far outperforms the S22. I used to have to carry my charger around with me because it was impossible to get through a day without having to charge my phone. With my S24 Ultra, even with the more power-hungry settings like high screen resolution and multiple apps running in the background, I can make it home with battery to spare without having to charge it once. You really have to use them side-by-side to notice the difference. Otherwise, very good video, thank you. ❤

Was it like that when you first purchased your s22? Or did the battery degrade that fast in two years? My batteries degrade fast, I don’t think I use a efficient recharge system (overnight charger here) and my iPhone batteries always crap out after 2 years that I’ll need a charger too. I ordered a s24u so I’m hoping this won’t just happen again, I think it’s how I charge them tho :/

@@ThatGuy-qg4wwActually, the battery was still in very good condition. The battery health never dropped, but the phone was not as optimized as an S24 Ultra. Even in the winter, the phone was getting hot. Sometimes, I had to turn the performance to maximum to have a smooth and fast phone for a bit. Great review man appreciate it. I am still holding onto my S22 Ultra. It still does everything I need it to do. You can still get a great photo and it is a great phone for work as it is a multi tasking beast. Something I dont hear many people talk about are the size of the camera lenses. Maybe I am in the minority. But I do not like the HUGE lenses on the back with the bling bling silver on the sides. Looks a bit gaudy and cheap for my taste. The S22 Ultra lenses are smaller and less in your face. So for me I will stick with my S22 Ultra for now. Sure the battery is not great but on the other hand stick it in a charger and you are back up to 100% in no time. Also I know Samsung have moved away from the curved screen and this is for again the vast majority of people amazing. However I always kind of liked that cool curved screen. Gives the phone a great look and feel. Anyway just my two cents on what is for sure a 'First world Problem" ha ha. Lets face it if you are in a position to pick between either one then life is good!

I've had the 22,23,24 and trust me it does get better and better and they add more features to the cam like right now being able to shoot 4k120, 4k120 slow-motion, portrait on the new 5x which the 10x was not able to do. new 5x has a wider aperture, bigger sensor and more pixels and can still zoom up to 100x. not to mention screen is better when shooting outside coz of the 2600 peak brightness and the anti reflective screen. trust me it helps. shutter lag has greatly reduced and there are more settings on the camera. people say it's a slight upgrade, if everything is better and you add it all up, it's a major upgrade.

I guess it would depend on what one shoots. Coming from a background of full-frame photography, I've found the range 24-120 most useful for general photography. Serious portraiture relies heavily in the range 70-120 for perspective control. Beyond that, it flattens the perspective too much to be flattering to the average subject. The x3 (69mm) & x5 (115mm) do a reasonable job, but I use the x3 more and honestly wish it had more megapixels...say 25 or, if one is to be greedy 😁, 50....

The s22 ultra is a bigger brick, but it has all the features I want, and that's what Matt to me. I upgrade usually every 4 years or more.

I love my S22u, my phone plan was up , at the same time s24u is available , so I did switch. Took me abit to get used to s24u since i love s22u but I guess as the day went on I got used to it and that flat display is so much better for spen/note taking - which is the reason I got S22u and now S24u.

My decision was not to upgrade from S22 Ultra. And I won't likely upgrade to S25 Ultra when it is released. You see the difference when you have them side by side, exactly as you said. But if you don't you are fine with either. The only difference which I can see as important is battery life being better in case of S24 Ultra. But again, it was not enough to convince me to switch. Am I missing something keeping my S22 Ultra? Well, if there is anything I don't quite feel on dally basis...

This video is definitely helping me decide my next upgrade. Wish I didnt have to but I busted my S22U screen. The camera hardware is most important, and the 5x optical vs 10x on the S22U may be my dealbreaker on buying another S22U
@jimgom33376 ай бұрын
My conclusion is this : Both phones offers you exactly the same daily user experience and similar quality photos & videos. The only NOTICEABLE difference i see, is the anti-reflection of S24 Ultra display ! Definately NOT worth to upgrade !

Here is my biggest question though are you capturing it using natural or vivid setting and if it is vivid what setting is the slider set to? I wonder how much of an effect the vividness slider has on picture quality
@techwithbenefits8 ай бұрын
The vivid slider is just to display the image. It has no impact on the actual photo itself
@majorj0nny6 ай бұрын
Speaking of the camera specifically, I'm really not impressed with the 24 camera compared with the 22... Particularly on zoom shots, the 24 is always ruined with 'fake' overprocessing compared to what feels like a more genuine cleaner image of the 22. I'm trying to switch off the AI optimisation stuff which helps improve a little bit there's stuff a bike blobby effect for zoomed images

I recently had my Samsung S22 Ultra break and received a refurbished one as a replacement. I am also currently testing out the Samsung S24 Ultra to consider upgrading. However, I have noticed a significant difference in the brightness of the photos taken with the two devices. The S22 Ultra produces much brighter images compared to the S24 Ultra. Apart from this, I have not observed any other major differences between the two phones. I personally prefer the brighter display and photos of the S22 Ultra, both indoors and outdoors. Additionally, my refurbished S22 Ultra has the AI intelligence features enabled, which I appreciate. Considering these factors, I am leaning towards keeping the S22 Ultra.
@DayvonGrey7 ай бұрын
What people never seem to mention is the soeed difference. I have an s23 ultra and i just bought the s24 ultra and it is far less laggy and a lot smoother doing daily activities. The s23 ultra was not laggy by any means, but it often would stutter switching apps and scrolling. Not a huge deal nor a big difference, but its strange no one mentions this on videos.

I've just done a trade upgrade from a Huawei P30 Pro 128GB to a S24 Ultra 1TB so I think an upgrade was definitely worthwhile for me. 🙂 But it is still good to see these kind of videos of how well the S22 Ultra holds up so I feel pretty confident this one will last me for quite a few years hopefully.
@jerbsherb43915 ай бұрын
I like how they showed off the AI stuff for S24 ultra and I am already using those same features on my S22. Absolutely terrible reason to upgrade. Unless there is some insane hardware upgrade in the S25, I am not upgrading.

Whenever i buy any Samsung phones, i would wait about 2 generations at least to get the newer one. Started with S6 then got the S10+. Afterwards i got a very good deal for the S20 + and went with it but was thoroughly disappointed with that generation until i got my S22 ultra and i love it. I think i'll wait for the S25 series to come out and see then.

It's a 12mp camera vs 40mp, however with S22 Ultra Samsung took 10mp resolution selfies by default. The S24 Ultra also has a better Auto Focus (dual pixel) and larger sensor size. It's better!

After being a note and ultra series user having owned note1, note2, note3, note 8, note20, s22u, i can say one thing about samsung, they actually use customers as guinea pigs. They have great complete phones release followed by half baked experiments. So you have to know which one is their complete phone and which ones are experiments on users. Note 1 and 2 were experiments. Note 3 was experiment. Note 4 was complete, 5, 6, 8,9 were all experiments. Note 10 was the actual final complete phone. Note20 snapdragon was also the complete note as it was the last note. Then s21U and s22U were half baked experiments and S23 ultra was the complete phone. S24U is sadly an experimental phone. They will refine it in later versions. But since in todays world its not possible to fool people for so long i guess they will correct the probable delibrate shortcomings of s24U in S25U. But for now S23U was the last complete phone that samsung has to offer. I dont have s24 U, but based on the reviews, i can guage that S24U issamsungs experiment on users...based on the data, they will refine it and come up with a more complete phone. And users frustrated with s24 will love the next s25u which will immediately look superb compared to s24u. The same happened with s22u and s23u.

Excellent videos by TECH! I traded my S22 Ultra against an S24 Ultra and I was excited about the video quality. At first. I took tons of videos using UHD/60fps at night at a rock concert and the clips look terrific. However, back at my Win 11 PC these clips look terrible. Exposure is flickering when I play them in the Media Player, and when I put them in a video editor, i.e. DaVinci, all the clips display a grey fog. I basically have to adjust a lot of color settings that were done on the S24 Ultra automatically, it seems, but not transferred when copying them to my PC. What the heck? That worked perfectly with the S22 Ultra! By the way, these problems are also with HD/30. Right now, these clips are unusable. What good is it when they are perfect on the phone but nowhere else? Am I missing something?
@hapzfl7 ай бұрын
I found the reason: the S24 Ultra uses a 10-bit HEVC (H.265) code for UHD which neither Microsoft Windows 11 nor DaVinci Resolve can handle. Only the VLC player is able to handle playing these UHD clips properly. But that does not help with editing.

Still very happy with my S22 Ultra, won't change until I see the S25 Ultra - - - and might still wait a bit longer! I was also observing the evolution and waiting for a Fold, but as long as the S-Pen is not integrated, the cameras don't match at least the current S Series, there is no way I'm going to put +$1.8K on the counter! Looks like my other deal breaker (small outside display) is finally being addressed 😁.
