The Type 5 Heavy is a Japanese tier 10 heavy tank.
The Type 5, also known as the Type 2605, was one of the variants of the O-I superheavy tank, developed during WWII. The vehicle was planned to be used for breaking through fortified enemy lines and for coastal defense.
Sometimes known as "Godzilla" or just Type 5, the Type 5 Heavy holds the title as one of the most frequently changed Tier X vehicles in the game. Initially considered to be one the worst tier 10s in the game, the Type 5 Heavy has since received multiple buffs to its performance in various later patches. While the first round of buffs did not significantly improve its performance, the second round, received in patch 9.17.1, brought forth major changes to the way this tank played. With its much stronger armor and a massive new 15.2 cm howitzer gun with lethal HE shells, each dealing 1400 damage per shot if penetrating the target's armor or 500-600 damage if not, the Type 5 Heavy would consistently inflict serious damage against even the most heavily armored tanks in the game. Because of this, the tank quickly became a far more formidable and popular vehicle, having enough firepower to impact the whole of the meta game and gaining the reputation as one of the most loathed Tier X vehicles from players that were forced to square off against it.
The Type 5 Heavy marks the end of its Japanese heavy line.

It used to very good tank with very good armor but now, it is trash. WG decided to nerf this tank which i loved to play whatever match i play.

It still has the same armor it always had... They just changed the gun like... 5-6 years ago? What works against the Type 5 is that gold-ammo is now *much* more wide spread and that you usually end up in pure TX matches, where basically everyone is firing gold at everything anyway.

@@bluesharpie9744 Penetration indicators just level the playing field and reduce the disparity between good and bad players. The last maybe 6 years or so there has been an arms race however, with more and more gold ammo beeing fired to compensate for better armor, and new tanks beeing added with more and more armor (or tanks getting buffed) to stay relevant, which in turn encourages more gold ammo and so on... The Type 5 is just one of the sad victims of that trend, because its armor layout can't realy compensate for gold ammo spam. It is great against regular ammo (if not outright OP), and just a huge EXP pinata against 330mm HEAT. The hulldown-meta is just a by-trend of that gold-escalation imho, since you can't realy expose your hull anymore regardles of the matchup. Most heavy tank hulls are still balanced around the standard ammo pen level, requiring hulldown play. And when everyone goes hulldown and fights for the positions where you can do so, you are more or less forced to do the same...

The economy of this game is still bad, the guy did 10k damage, carried the entire team, and left with a loss, even using a premium account. War Thunder is grateful for that, an epic match there would easily yield more than 200k, and a top tier tank costs 1 million, not 6 million, earns more, and pays less. The game should not be a job to achieve things, people work, they don't have time to spare to live inside the game and get a top tier vehicle.

That's the main reason i quit playing a long time ago, i couldn't afford to repair my Jagdtiger and sold all my tanks except my beloved kv2 and su152, so at one point i was hardcore grinding for little credits so i could play a match of two with my JT. Can't enjoy a game like that.

Why not use it? I hate it when someone bothers me about this! You can use it, ANYONE can use the most powerful ammunition.... You don't need a bank card for this, but if someone buys credit just to shoot with better-cooled ammunition, that's an idiot, but it's his money. But if he farmed it and he has a lot, then go for it. I'm the same way, I have a lot of credits (I farmed them), there's nothing left to develop, I'll spend them on more expensive ammunition! Have a nice day!
