Mr. Primate & his team are incredible. I wouldn't want to play 5e without being able to import my DDB content into Foundry. It makes running 5e so much easier online.

I just finished 6 weeks of running Dragon of Stormwreck Isle for an after school club at a middle school. Epic time! Hope to run for the High School next semester.

45:11 Maybe this would help spoopydruid: taking a 6 W’s approach to each NPC will help give guidelines for creativity. Asking “who/what/where/when/why/want” and answer each in one sentence (if not one word) Who - their relation to other NPCs What - their job/craft/daily life Where - their hometown culture vs. current culture When - age and urgency of their want Want - primary objective These are all things that the NPC can fall back on in their conversation, “that reminds me of X”, “we had a saying in the army”, “oh JoeNPC, yeah he’s on my bowling team!”

I run a library club and these materials have been great for us, I signed up a year and a half ago and then again for the digital materials this year, fully agreed this is exactly what we want from WotC.

I like to write lines of dialogue durring my session prep. I don't read it at the table, but it lets me practice being that character before the game. Which helps me to feel confident. Honestly, most of my session prep is there to boost my confidence...

It's totally a mental exercise. I almost never refer to my notes except for monster stats or my list of random names.

To help me run NPCs, I give them a phrase they often say. For the undead Banshee Agatha, i use; "Life is Pain." That reminds me she likes to see the living in pain. She will not kill them, but she doesn't mind them suffering. This helps me understand what deals she will make with the PCs. Sure she will give them the knowledge they seek, but first she requires them to do . . .

In the tech world, there's an open-source software tool called LLVM. LLVM is a compiler that supports compiling software written in a bunch of different programming languages (C/C++, Haskell, Rust, etc.) for various types of computers (Mac, Linux, Windows, etc.) It works in two steps. First, it converts the program into an intermediate form. Then it converts the intermediate form into machine-readable software. So it doesn't have to support every possible combination. When you add a new type of computer, it works with all the languages. And when you add a new language, it works with all supported types of computers. It'd be great if the 5e community had a similar tool for any-to-any content conversion from WotC, Kobold Press, Level Up, etc, to Foundry, Roll 20, etc through a community-developed & supported intermediate format.

I‘d love to see Mike/LazyDM, team up with Hankerin/Runehammer, Adam Bradford/Ex-DnDB, Now Demiplane and Critical Role Foundation to bring storytelling methods and tools to schools.

Something to consider around your movie analogy is Movies Anywhere. This is a function/feature available in the US and ONLY the US..... It *does* allow disperit online movies from wallmart, from dvd codes, from Google, from amazon to be held and available in one collection! It was clearly done to help ease the US customer into adopting online movies (ages ago) and still (somehow) exists today. It never arrived in the UK - because none of those companies give a care about the UK market. This tells us that *perhaps* customer pressures could have an effect on this.... But, I highly doubt it... (not when the Internet public/customer is so divided and unwilling to unite!!!) I should also note that a tool for Roll20 allowed me to export my roll20 owned materials to foundry (I imagine Roll20 were NOT happy about this!)

I have locked myself i to fantasy grounds due to buying the ultimate license and unity upgrade because i only want to pay once. F subscription model. Then i spent over $250 on a package deal for 20 books in Fantasy Grounds. Then Foundry got good and i wish i had waited before committing so hard. I can use Roll 20 and Beyond 20 with my current DM who is into that ecosystem. I can't afford to switch now but i still like dming in FGU. I also bought Talespire because i likethe 3D maps but it is such a hassle to use FGU for combat tracker and module data but Talespire for combat minis.

One or two key phrases or lines of dialogue helps me find the voice - accent, pace, inflection, word choice - of important or long-running NPCs.

I definitely think that KISS is one of the best strategies in general. I tend to like to have a little detail about their introduction. It might be literally the character introducing themselves, or it might be just an idea about how I want to introduce the character. But the idea is to sort of encapsulate the character right in their introduction the same way movies often try to tell you exactly who a character is the first time you see them on screen. I want to set expectations for both me and my players. But I don't write out like a whole scene or anything. After all it might not happen that way. But it gives me an idea of what I'm trying to convey and one way I could do it, and it could be a simple as the line the character uses when they literally introduce themselves. Beyond that you need to keep the character's motivations in mind, whether you write it down or not. If it's baked into who they are it may not be specifically necessary to be explicit about it. For example if an NPC is a loyal servant to another that alone can serve as their motivation. If the characters latch onto them and wind up really interacting with them a lot then it might be valuable to build out the reasons WHY the NPC is so loyal, but initially it's probably not important unless they actually aren't that loyal. Beyond that yeah just vague things to keep in mind is great and don't have to be decided in advance. You can wait and see how you wind up roleplaying the character and take notes after the fact as well. I think the real key is to experiment. You should theoretically be among friends in a safe space for trying things out. It might even be good to speak to the table about it if you're nervous. There's no shame in admitting when you're self-conscious about something and asking friends to be supportive while you work it out.

@Sly Can a game-novel for rpg play/education based on distinguishing fact and fiction concering Rome be viable for publication/adaptation in schools? My concern is that schools won't accept my future game-novel based upon violence since the goodly, teenage adventurers are battling golems, which are part undead, risen from Rome's curse. For ages 14 plus, ideal of even younger players outside of schools, but I know schools are very strict/critical of dark themes or violence, even if there is a huge eductional factor attached to it.

the less time you have, the less fixated you are on having the players stick to the plot. It allows for spontaneity.

So yes, but no... I volunteered to run a After School D&D club at my local middle school. I contacted WoTC, and after seeing what I was setting up, WotC said they would send me their club kit to help our group out. That was back in Sept, and now it's almost Dec, and we haven't seen a box. Don't want to complain, as it's free stuff for the kids, but just because they market such materials doesn't actually mean such support exists. And yes, I've emailed their support dept on this, and haven't heard back. Still hoping it shows up...

What is the legality of these integrations? Given Hasbro's prior behavior, I fear these plugins are just one eager attorney's DMCA threat away from extinction.
