@Vojje Was right everyone , spell penetration only works in pvp and does not affect your resist in pve , I just check this when clearing Naxxramas today , make sure to use other sockets to cap your expertise , hit or just use strength socket .

@@ifs1037 I was thinking the same thing. I dropped my expertise leather belt with agi for a strength plate belt and a expertise neck for one with more AP and crit. My dps seems to have gone up

You're wrong about the spell penetration, it's not required at all. Holy damage doesn't have a resistance tree and bosses don't have any holy resistance. Spell pen is utterly worthless in PVE. The UK legs are better thanks to the massive amount of strength disparity that comes with the sockets. 259 attack power vs 176 is a lot, even if you take the 1,3% crit into consideration.

If you've played wrath expansion a lot you know hybrid damage school specs (Ret , Spellhance , ... ) do need spell penetration just a bit , You can clearly see I resisted my exorcism , judgment , seal of vengeance , seal of command and hammer of wrath in this log classic.warcraftlogs.com/reports/bKVFdprcN9D72aLq/#boss=-3&difficulty=0&type=damage-done&source=13 Holy damage resistance in fact exists in game but can't be gained by players they only exist on npcs and bosses according to wowhead and mostly on dragon bosses . Just mouse over the exorcism damage line and you can see resisted hit , resisted critical hit , this log is from wotlk prepatch , and from what I can remember from wotlk just a bit of spell penetration makes all of these resists disappear , the trickiest part is that no addon shows you have fully resisted or resist hits with your spells but in fact if you combat log and check the analytics you can clearly see what is happening with your damage , maybe that's what makes you think its worthless . and on the UK legs I agree having more sockets for sure is better but I barely could reach hit and expertise cap , the attack power difference you mentioned only happens if I can use strength sockets but according to the website that set of items only get you 10 expertise , but after all only reason I haven't used UK legs is I haven't got them :D

@@XretX Mobs+bosses higher level than you gains some resistance per level, this is not affected by spell pen. Spell pen is a dead stat in PVE, period.

@@Vojje are you sure that spell pen doesn't work on the +5 resistance (atleast in vanilla) mobs get per level? I agree you never gear pen on Ret but curious in general

I ended up getting sword of justice as a human which gives a socket bonus for hit. I'm in dire need for that leather belt from UK. And I have too much hit rating so I'm going to change my urgent crusade boots to ebon ones

It's not ideal but your not out of luck completely. Go solo Blood furnace heroic and get the Libram of avengement, it was the tbc bis trinket and functions exactly the same as furious blows but you gain 6 less crit rating. At level 80 crit rating scaling, you'll be aight
