One of my friends who is both trans and the child of very conservative Christians uses the argument that he is exactly as God created him and since God does not make any mistakes, then God must have wanted him to be trans and he is perfect just as he is. This has not yet changed his parents’ minds, but it does shut them up for a while

Great point about needing our consent to be given free will. I've often thought that, if I'm bound for hell as an atheist, why was my free will -- to not be born, given the known outcome -- taken from me? As usual, it was Christopher Hitchens who nailed this issue shut when he said, "Of course we have free will; we've no choice but to have it." He went on to explain that, with that statement, at least he knew he was being ironic, but to say, "The boss *makes* us have free will" makes a mockery of the entire concept.

Another masterpiece misterdeity. I put a similar view to a pair of Jehovah Witnesses some years ago. After wailing to me about the evil in the world, I replied "the world is as god wants it, or else he is not all powerful". And the look on their faces was priceless. How could they argue against that. So they quickly changed the subject. Good save, NOT!

I love how people cite Adam & Eve's actions as the way sin entered the world and thus mankind is responsible for it's own suffering. And yet, before they ate the fruit they could not have known they were doing wrong and an omniscient deity must have known what they would do. None of it makes any sense. And if our actions result in either the very best of all reward or the very worst of all punishments, how can we possibly be free?

I've always found the question of free will to be nearly pointless. The argument like Hitchens stated is wr have free will because the boss said so is dumb. Another track is that every choice we make is determined by all my other choices. That can never be proven. Get a time machine go to the moment of your first choice and follow the path to the current. Can't do it never will. So a pointless position. Then every choice we make is our own, again unprovable.

My favorite analogy is a hand of computer solitaire: once the hand is dealt, winning and losing are closed options. Some hands can't be won, period. Others may depend upon your skill (or luck alone) as to whether you actually win. And of course, in computer solitaire you can't cheat unlike with cards. You may well be free to make some moves, but in the end your input doesn't matter. What kind of freedom is that?

everyone seems to assume satan is going to be horrid. if i go to hell then GOD is "punishing me" for my sins, but why would satan want to punish me too? satan hates christians. if i'm being punished by satan, then satan is doing god's work - that makes zero sense, hell is eternity having WAY MORE FUN than you ever could on earth, this is what god hates, god wants you to suck his toes for eternity, satan is SAVING you from singing amazing grace for eternity. hell is where satan thumbs his nose at god and gives everyone a good time, no mind control, no ten commandments to follow, just eternal life that you can probably quit if you get bored with learning guitar from hendrix or trying to grasp relativity from einstein. why would hell be undesirable? why would satan want to torment me - he hates god and christians, not sinners.

It does make logical sense. God wants bad people to suffer. Satan is supposed to be bad. Against god. So why would satan fulfill gods wishes after tossing him out of heaven? It really doesn't take any sense. It only works from a standpoint of 'I made this up to manipulate people into believing what I say'. I program robots. My robots have the same amount of "free will" that I do. They make decisions, too. Humans and robots both come with programming. Human programming evolved. So did robot programming, actually. No engineered object was produced without lots of experimentation to get it right. It goes through natural selection, just like humans did. I always thought the whole debate over whether we have free will was started to answer the question of evil. Nobody is going to look at particle physics and use it to answer morality questions. Especially if your conclusion is that "the criminal was destined to crime, so he shouldn't be punished." Because that begs the question of why the judge isn't destined to sentence the criminal. As soon as you give up free will in favor of determinism, all question of "should" goes out the window. The phrase "he could have done otherwise" makes no sense. Could have have done otherwise after he did it? Of course not. Could he have done otherwise before he did it? For sure, because we all know what that means, even if the universe is deterministic. At what point in time are you asking "could he have done otherwise"?

Residents of Porirua say their lives are being disrupted by late-night "siren battles", competitions between young people who affix loudspeakers to their cars and bicycles and see who can blast music the loudest and clearest. Dion's songs, featuring her soprano-like voice, are favored because of their high treble and low bass. There is a lot of talk that we are persons at conception. The term ensoulment is used to describe when the soul enlivens the physical body, this is called ensoulment. I have always wondered about the process. As there are thousands of sperm and only one egg? Is there a cloud of souls hovering around or just one soul dispatched for the mission? Are souls "Creatio ex nihilo" or is there a place in heaven called "Camp Soul" where soul are trained for their mission? Are souls assigned randomly? It is also a fact that a goodly number of fertilized eggs fail to begin the gestation process. Are those "lost souls" given a second chance? If an adoration takes place is that soul recycled? Do we have a right to know where and how we were given a soul?

The god's omniscience constitutes a list of all its _own_ thoughts and actions, and since the god is eternal and unchanging, so is the list. This means the list is uncreated, just like the god. Which means the god is not the author of the list. The god is a robot, executing a list of instructions from an unknown source.

When William Craig starts to "analyse the cause of the universe" at the end of his pet peeve the Kalam... -Timeless - Spaceless - Enormously powerful - Personal The personal ( an unembodied mind) is the least convincing characteristic that just doesn't follow. But it's very hard *not* to think of god as a person (or even three) if you grew up a believer. To me, now, it's the most obvious clue that god is created in our image, rather than the other way around.

Wow, you're really getting down to the meat and potatoes, now. Since "there isn't" a god aware of/doing the rigging, yet the system is indeed rigged, who do you suggest is responsible and how do you suggest we un-rig it? Also, your voice. Quit it. You have a great voice and the thousands of random people from all over the world who regularly watch every video you post enjoy listening to you.

@misterdeity Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I don't really have any ideas about the unrigging. Though, to some extent (policy wise), I think the northern Europeans have the right idea. Just take care of everyone, giving them a baseline of security and opportunity. And I have always hated my voice. Though I do think it worked perfectly for Mr. Deity, seeing as it completely goes against type. Don't think my opinion will change, but I appreciate your kind words.

@@misterdeity I have suggestions on fixing the rigged system, but youtube and google are obedient companies that filter/censure subjects like that. Such discussions can't take place here, where everybody is. The prude version is basically this: quantify democracy, and realize that riot, rebellion, and revolution is an essential function of democracy, and obedience is an anti-democratic doctrine that only benefits those who want to exploit us. Expose obedience doctrine for the insidious lie that it is, expose to the people that they have to instead decide to think and act democratically, and do those necessary things the obedience drones obsessively filter out of public conversation. Regarding your voice, look. I'll get down to some meat and potatoes for you, too. I want you to know this about your overall image, what it means to at least me, and probably more of your audience. Your vocal pitch is some amount higher than what you hear from most men. For myself, I was raised in an intensely gender-centric environment where boys were expected to be manly, including mastering that deep macho-macho pitch. Because of growing up that way, people like me go the rest our lives with insecurity about if our voice is an 'appropriate' pitch. IT SUCKS. But then I see you and hear your voice, you are relaxed and confident and speak with pride and you don't give a f about that macho stuff. Instead, you focus on presenting yourself as gentle and civilized and preferring the battlefield of intellect over savagery, which makes so much more sense to me. It's how I wish I could have been more like, and it shows me that I can do the same thing and if anybody doesn't like it they can f off. If I had to guess, I might say your own critical opinion of your voice could be a result of some similar insecurity society has given you, too. You, and me, we are not the problem, the people who make us feel that way are. Your voice is a force of healing, please stop hating it.
