I know it's boring to play it straight, but full tang batoning knife with a straight back, the biggest Ferro rod I can get my hands on, and a 2 liter, stainless steel cantine. Chop and cut wood, make fire, transport and boil water. You can use these tools to build traps and shelters. You can even learn to make a sling out of any rope or vines you find and use ricks a bullets to take out small to medium prey to eat and use parts. Hat, for the sun, can be made out of almost any found material.

Thats probably the answer how you find things like that in weirdest of places in game or even in a random backpack beside the road, some people had similar reasoning i guess XD In all seriousness i can not function without coffee as well... :P
