Greg: "my reason for believing in God is I prayed and something happened" Greg that can't be a reason for believing in God because you believed in God before you prayed. What you're engaged in is self-deception. Your mommy and your daddy and your preacher and your Sunday school teacher told you about God and you believed them. Then you look at the universe and believe it's created by God because you believed in God when you looked at it, you prayed and something happened and you believe God did it because you believed in God when you prayed. You're starting with belief. With faith, in the unfalsifiable and undemonstrable.

So nice to see Amir get body checked at the door and not just be handed a half hour block of the show again to do the same old thing. SECOND he gets hung up on the wording of the title of the show and cannot get off of it because he thinks he has some gotcha. SECOND once they finally pry him away from snidely talking about words in the title, he just asserts "something can't come from nothing". He can't move on from that, Jim wadded his argument up last time, threw it in the trash can, set the trash can on fire, demonstring that Amir he had no understanding of the physics OR the philosophy. He wanted to take a philosophy concept and actualize it in reality when that is not possible, it's just a concept, and he even mixed up the first and second laws of thermodynamics pretending the last part of the second law also applied to the first law. When he realizes he is intellectually backed into a corner he refuses to answer simple questions, just complaining that the question was even brought up.

@AdamBladeTaylor10 сағат бұрын
Birthright citizenship is done and over. Your friend WILL be deported. This is literally what everyone SAID was going to happen.
@loki22405 сағат бұрын
Most people don't know what this means. They don't think their loved ones or themselves will be affected. But the Fourteenth Amendment, which establishes birthright citizenship, was ratified largely to make African Americans citizens after chattel slavery was abolished by the Thirteenth Amendment. Their ancestors had been in the U.S. for generations, in most cases. Without adherence to the Fourteenth Amendment, the people in control of the government can decide that anyone isn't a citizen, based upon ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, political dissent, etc. And there are many people on the right who don't want certain ethnic groups here or even any "non-white" people. Also, just ignoring the U.S. Constitution and getting away with it on this issue will embolden the administration to ignore the Constitution on other issues (and normalize it for the public). But true to form, most people won't care because they don't think they'll be affected. And other people typically won't do anything out of fear of being targeted. And the reality is that the time to do something about it has already passed. Once such people already have the power to do what they want to do, we're essentially SOL because tens of millions of people aren't going resist with violence. We needed to have kept these people out of office in the first place.

Grant - ID/ creationism / fine tuning arguments are all based on the absurd assumption that our life bearing world is the only one that could ever happen in all of eternity and infinity. Also, that is only taking into consideration that "life" can only happen the way it did here. There are probably many trillions of ways to get to sentient beings. Even if life required a pre-existing mechanism to make it happen, there is no reason to think that the process may just be automatic and universal. Adding a personality (gods), would just be adding an exponentially greater, and unnecessary, improbability. Chaos may be the norm in our universe, but may be rare in the infinite cosmos.

When the theist claims that there was nothing, before there was something, then claims there was a god, he has already shot himself in the foot; for a god is not nothing Fun fact: An eternal god is an infinite regress. Therefore if an infinite regress is not possible, then neither is an eternal god. Change is logically sequential regardless of temporality. Even the process of thinking is sequential. If a god can be a self-maintaining brute fact, a non-god system without a personality can be too. Most apologetic, when fairly applied, self-refutes.

What theists claim is "written on your heart", is merely instinctual empathy. Also, it is just as possible, that if there was a creator god, that being may just love everything we think is horrible. The god could just as easily think that torturing babies for fun, is totally awesome. In fact, a simple look at nature, would confirm that. Nature is mostly torture.

Nate here. I didn't advocate for anything that Thomas Jefferson or George Washington didn't. I specifically said I'm not going to go do vigilante shit - and that I agree with Matt's take on Luigi. Frustrated? Very. Unilaterally violent? No. Don't get it twisted.

About those talented people you listed: all have been proven beyond doubt to be using live pitch correction and even their own studio solo backline while miming, so I beg to differ regarding their genuine performing integrity.

If you need an apology from me then let me know. Everybody thinks I'm the bad guy. Out in CA, isn't that guy, if I may meme, "Get your felonies here, forty dollar felonies, get em while they're hot." Is his name noose em. Forty dollars, why that's a hand cart. Blazing Saddles reference. I would never condone violence unless it's a last resort. One week is gone, got two years ish to organize. My thing is, if you aren't a registered voter, you aren't included in the "count". This is a different thing, very exclusive club. Registered voters, verified. Debate is not what I am looking for, rather, LEG-Forum, Robert's Rules and Mason's Manual, at local level politics. Getting into the local level political scene, much easier than many think as many seats go unfilled or uncontested and a few votes gets one in. Nationally. Are "write in" candidates still a thing? Using even face book as a platform, one could have a national system set up to do some pretty amazing things in just these two years. Can you think like that?

The plane crash happened when a military blackhawk took off in the middle of an established flight path. The plane didn't see the chopper. The chopper pilot should have known that they were in a flight path, and should have paid attention to their surroundings.

I don't think Matt is rude enough to these dishonest cowards. How about you disgusting and cowardly apologists actually try being honest? I just don't understand bc i don't ever need to be dishonest when discussing this topic and I don't have a triomni being on my side So why do you people need to be so dishonest when discussing your magical sky daddy

"When you live outside the law you no longer have the protections of it." Not sure if that's the way to propagate humanism and enlightenment.
@loki2240Сағат бұрын
I'm not going to defend that take, but I'll point out that trying to remain ideologically consistent with humanism can result in the loss of the opportunity to promote humanism. This has been brought up many times with Free Speech Absolutism. Groups can exploit Free Speech to gain enough power to "eliminate" or drastically restrict Free Speech. It's a similar deal with humanism. Trying to be ideologically consistent, while entities acquire the power to impose an oppressive totalitarian regime, will result in humanism not having much impact on the society. And trying to convince the totalitarian regime to embrace humanism is very unlikely to significantly improve the situation. But again, I'm not advocating anything in particular. I struggle with these issues myself. I try to live by certain guidelines, and I have my own personality. I don't know that I could behave differently, even if it's the reasonable thing to do under the circumstances. I've developed in a relatively safe and comfortable environment, and I may not be well-suited for dealing with extreme threats from other people that aren't simple self-defense from physical violence.

@@loki2240 "Trying to be ideologically consistent, while entities acquire the power to impose an oppressive totalitarian regime, will result in humanism not having much impact on the society." I am not sure if I agree or even if I understand what you mean with ideologically consistent. I don't believe that the approach "no tolerance for intolerance" is necessarily in conflict with free speech (it might well be with the "free speech" is understood in some places) and to me it seems very consistent with humanism to oppose undemocratic powerful entities like giant multinational corporations. Maybe I didn't really brought my point across. I found Matt's treatment of the matter rather odd. Of course, the company didn't dissolve over night. But if we think of the assassination as a political act then it is clearly terrorism and a look into the recent US history shows that terrorism can have an immense impact. The quote about "living outside the law" was then just the uncharacteristically thoughtless cherry on top.

Grant, I have lots of coincidental evidence that I am the star of a tv show much like the Truman Show. I specifically say that I'm going to report potholes at x y and z place since I notice the road conditions going to work, and the next day, prior to me reporting it, its fixed. Things often just kind of work out in my favor, even when perhaps they shouldn't (or have low odds). And lots of other things, but know what, if I went around thinking I was the star of the TV show for real, then that would be a bad way to live my life, plus it would make the tv show really boring.

X-rez what you didn't grasp. Matt wanted a specific answer. All you had to be was to be honest and say "ok what you said was in the Bible, I was wrong on that, the interpretation you have is wrong," and then you could go into those facts. But you whined.
@solly1191195 сағат бұрын
That's true, but I also can't say Matt showed any real patience with X-rez, because as soon as he said Matt was misinterpreting the Bible, he lost it and called X-rez a "dishonest f-word". X-rez was wrong but not being aggressive or rude, but any hope of salvaging the conversation was gone as soon as Matt called him that.

This is a uniquely American issue this isea that we just have to let someone preach their entire "truth". Y'all think thats how interviews work to.. interviews with actually powerful people NO. Yoj can not allow people to gish gallop untrue things thats how we end up with so many morons believing obviously untrue things...like Trump wanting to help poor and working people
