24 year old Dublin lad here. After graduating with my degree in Nanotechnology where I could work in the likes of Intel or Pfizer, I decided to emigrate after realising that Ireland is a place made for those who already have their money. If you're just starting off in life, there is nothing there for you. The country needs a change in government where the focus is on the very people who would be supporting the country for the next few decades, provided they stop emigrating and have a place to stay. Right now, it's a government of the landlords, for the landlords...

They did in the past and over time if they get experienced candidates running and put forth a platform that actually is for the regular people it is possible Sinn Fein could win. People in the South decry what happened in the North. But, nobody wants to admit that after the British forced the partition on those fighting for independence, and let's be honest that is what happened because the British were the ones who put forth the idea of partition and made the threats that saw it accepted, those in the South gave a sigh of relief and were happy with their newfound independence and over time abandoned the Nationalist community in the North who had fought alongside them during the war of independence. It is easy under the circumstances of such ease in the South to look down your noses at those in the Nationalist community in the North and Sinn Fein in particular. Forgetting how messed up the political process was there. Businesses and others with special interests were given five even seven votes compared to the one vote per person that constitutes a real democracy and Derry for example was gerrymandered so the minority got most of the council seats and the majority Nationalist community had no say.

Well, the two main parties in government at the moment aren't the best on ethics either. One was founded on fascism and the other has an extensive history of corruption as well as causing the largest Economic crash this country has ever seen. To be honest, I feel they are both trying to hold onto power as much as possible hence why they're in bed with each other. Think the main thing that comes first is who can run the country the best and has the people's best interests at heart.

The Only way Sinn Fein would make government in the South is because the others are so bad, Still I think if people think a SF government will change anything they would be sorely disappointed. Its all Global now and transnational and national governments are now becoming more and more irrelevant. Just look at any nation trying to step outside of Global norms and go its own way, it gets destroyed, and with Ireland being pathological with its membership of the EU no Irish parliament would be able to pass a humane budget anyway. What's going to happen with mass migration that will put major pressure on services and housing, crime etc?. Sinn Fein did something that sometimes works - they waited. They waited patiently for two new generations to come of age who have no memory of the troubles. And now Sinn Fein has become what it was before the troubles: a progressive party with a solid platform. People forget that Sinn Fein was founded before the IRA and it is now hitting its stride 28 years after the final IRA bombings. So if the young people of Ireland can have no memory of Sinn Fein's violent middle period, then so can we. They are the only party that has the policy platform that the majority of people want. They are going to win big in Northern Ireland on May 5. And then, they are going to lead the unification of Ireland. Troubles? What troubles? The new Ireland is here.

The turning point was when Martin McGuinness died and when Gerry Adams stood down as leader, as much as I personally liked McGuinness & Adams as politicians I can say with full confidence that they were never going to make Sinn Fein the largest party in Ireland because of their shady past as IRA members (allegedly). Mary Lou & Michelle brought a new image to the party that didn’t invoke the IRA and tied into that progressive image especially when you compare them to FF & FG.

Do Sinn Fein have what it takes to transform a sick economy? Who knows? What would they do or be allowed to do by Brussels to turn the economy around? A united Ireland is one thing but a united Ireland in the EU is still not a "free country", look at what has happened to other less productive member states, burdened with debt that they'll never be able to repay, not what I'd call freedom.

@@anthonym3351 I agree that people are tired of the same old parties and lack of options but am always conscious of there being no such thing as a free lunch and that Ireland for all the benefits that the EU has brought to it is saddled with 200+ billion Euro's in debt.
