First of all I’d like to say that VVD has had a great season, and been outstanding for Liverpool, but Rio was at the top end of football for 8-9 years. VVD has had 1 good season for a top club, that’s it. So at the moment it’s not even a comparison. VVD still has a lot to learn and improve on, as was proven in the Champions League against Barca, when he was caught ball watching. These where the sort of errors a young Rio might make, but Rio at his best was a great player in the Chanpions League and against the best defences

Assuming Liverpool do what they need to do tonight, I for one am really looking forward to seeing VVD vs Messi. That’s also relevant to the topic because Messi made Ferdinand look like Phil Jones, so it will be interesting to see if VVD can do better although in fairness Messi is a bit older now and that Barca team was something else but it’s still something I really want to see anyway.

People often say if Liverpool dont win the league then Van dijk can't be player of the season. This is the problem with using trophies as the only indicator for being the best, firstly trophies are won by the whole team not an individual effort. So for example lets say Mo Salah scores 65 goals just in the league but Man city win the league therefore a player who has scored 65 goals in the league is irrelevant? I only ask this question because Rio said the best defender in the world is Ramos because he is up there with winning the most trophies, Ramos has been average at best for a while and without Ronaldo scoring 6 a game look at Real now. Van Dijk is defo player of the season, Least goals conceded in the league, furthermore since his debut liverpool have conceded the least goals, he only has 1 mistake that has lead to a goal, he has not been dribbled past any player in the league oe champions league (this stat was relevant before the bayern munich game, not sure if he has or has not been dribbled past as of yet). Sterling has had a wonderful season but saying he should win (if city win the league) then it is stupid because Agueros goals and assists combined is 26. Sterling 24. Salah 24. Hazard 24.

I don't want to trigger any Liverpool fans but based on the stats Rio won trophies for a living and compare a legend to a footballer who's only joined Liverpool not long ago and is still searching for his first bit of silverware at the club, so it's pretty obvious who's had the better career. But! If Virgil starts winning trophies with Liverpool he could get on the same level with Rio or even better
