7:10 this made me cry so hard!! in canada we had residential schools.exact same as boarding schools..........my mom is a residential survivor....she told me a story which i will share with you all... she says......"i remember when i was really young at the residential school,we were all here.all young and we were from all the surrounding places. we had to live in dorms and had to go to church single file and we had to eat together and i remember this one young girl had did something the nuns didnt like.so she went hungry..we were always hungry. but this girl went hungry.and they wouldnt feed her.so this other older girl was one of them that were asked to clean up after and there was always lots of left overs from the nuns.so she would take some and feed the young girl and she took great risk to doing this cause if she got caught....." "i remember another time.we used to get to go home for a short break to be with our families.but this one young girl came back to the residential school late.because of that all of us were told we were not to go home for christmas to be with our families....this made me sad and i remember crying myself to sleep for many nights.i was so broken hearted.i wanted so bad to see my parents....so anyway the holidays came and there were all of us here.i remember christmas eve and it was quiet.....i heard dogs in the distance...i thought i was dreaming cause there was never any sound of dogs.....i heard them coming nearer and nearer and a little time later the nuns came to my dorm and got me.so i went with them not understanding expecting bad.....i go down and there were my mom and dad!!!! they traveled 4 days in the cold to come bring me gifts and to spend time with me!!!!! i was so happy.they must have gotten word that we werent allowed to go home....i was so happy,but i felt so sad for the others that had no one........"

It's a sad story and I understand these people. I am about to read William B. Matson's book "The Edward Clown Family" to complete the story. These documentaries always open my eyes to what my ancestors might have gone through, sure I don't claim any Native Nation but I have come to known that I have mixed tribes in my blood from Central Mexico (through paternal grandfather), Northern Mexico (through maternal grandmother) and from South and Central Texas (from paternal grandfather). Unfortunately the Native Culture was lost on me as, I think, some ancestor natives assimilated and I often think what drove them to do so, since I proudly proclaim that "I'm Mexican." I wonder even still what are the names of the tribes that I come from.

Thank you for putting this together. I helped send food and clothing, and a friend to Wounded Knee, from Rockford IL. My friend was arrested while attempting to sneak in. Unfortunately he was one of only a few that went to court, lost and was sentenced. Thank goodness he appealed and it was overturned (they accused him of sedition and planning the overthrow of the government.

My great grandmother was an OB nurse on the pine ridge reservation. She helped many families. I want to reach out and find people that remember her. She lobbied against White Clay and even helped protect Russell Means from the charges he faced after the Wounded Knee occupation. The story goes he came to visit his newborn baby one night, drunk. My great grandmother, knowing what could happen with the police escorted him out and told him to sober up and she would make sure he could see his baby the next day, ensuring there wouldn't be a police presence. She did just that and he was able to visit his newborn child. Of all of his children, I have no clue which of them it was. I dont know enough history and I only have the stories from her daughter (my grandmother). If there is ANYONE out there who remembers Isabel McKeever please reach out to me.

I was a senior in high school. I knew what was going on. News was hard to come by. I just knew the tribes were going to take another beating. I am still embarrassed how these americans were treated. Unfortunately what happened 80 some years before is something that should never be forgotten. What I never understood was being put on a reservation was no plan for survival. We Indians are always with Native Americans. We were lucky enough to get independence from colonizers i.e., Europeans. But it was not the case with indigenous people of North, Central and South America. They were butchered, they were converted into Christians, their population was decreased deliberately so that Europeans can become a majority. As and when they became majority indigenous people disappeared and were pushed into poverty, drugs so that they never become aware about their culture and rights. It's time for them to take the issue to the UN. It's very important for Native American to increase their population rapidly and make every native aware about their history, only then world is going to listen to them. Natives need to protest massively throughout America for their civil rights. Even the prime leadership in USA and Canada should a native American.

As far as i know there are more Sioux descendants then people think ,even in The Netherlands there is Sioux ancestry , because i'm also from Sioux ancestry ,but i don't know how it was possible my grandpa was born in 1884 in The Netherlands ,but i know his mom had surely been from Sioux native American or Canadian heritage . Her father was a Chief from a Sioux tribe. I've also seen an old picture from a woman from an Kiowa Tribe and she is called the bride of Wishram ,and my sisters daughter has a strong look a like with that picture ,it looks if they are twins. My mothers sister born 1925, immigrated to Canada after WW 2with her Canadian husband and their little one or 2 year old daughter ,and she once showed her son a picture ,he had seen a man on that picture with a headdres on, and a leather skin buck jack,and beads on it . That man probably was as far as i understand my great great grand father . My mom was born and raised in The Netherlands and had alway's lived in The Netherlands ,she was born in 1924 ,she told me in the past that her grand ma was dark coloured and very shy or something in that way ,i think she meant that her grandma had no connection with the outside world. My oldest brother born 1950 and one from two brothers and one of totally four of the oldest sisters they told me that they had seen on pictures in the past that my grandpa had native Indian American looks ,but me the youngest born child ,born in 1967 don't remember pictures from my grand pa ,but a week ago i received a picture with my grand pa on it ,and my sisters son founded this picture on an ancestry site ,but the picture is not clear ,we must restore it . I hope no one will send negative reactions on my message ,it once happened that someone messaged me that i was a liar ,and that hurts me. I don't think anyone can help finding my Sioux roots ,but i only want to say that Sioux blood is still running through my vains . I think my Sioux ancestors would be proud if they knew that one day my family and i finally came to know more about our historical background . Maybe i don't count as a full Sioux member for some people? But i don't cry about that . I know my Great great grand pa was a Sioux Chief ,i think he probably was born around 1800?I don't know. His daughter was probably born in 1840?i also don't know . I only think i can know for sure that her son my grand pa was born in 1884 because i found that birthdate together with his name . His name is not a Sioux name ,and further back i see no Sioux names to . Family names are probably Dutch ,these names look far from Sioux ancestry. My family name is private ,and my mama's family maiden name before she married with my papa is Ziesling ,but that is not a Sioux name, i don't know why i've seen no Sioux family names . My name is Sylvia Diana so the initials are S.D. i call it S.outh D.akota 😊 My family name is private . I also can tell you for sure that my mom and her brothers and sisters had native American Indian eyes . I sometimes think Sitting Bull is my great great grandpa or great grand pa . I've read an article on google about an Indian shirt from Sitting Bull his grandson that was placed in a small University museum with the name Zernike in Groningen a place in The Netherlands were i was born and raised . I also read a lot about wild west show's there were a lot of native American Indian also Sioux who toured with these show's in America and Europe around the time my grandpa was born 1884 . I have no idea what happened ,but sometimes i think maybe there was an orphan from a Sioux tribe that was taken to The Netherlands or that my grand pa his mother probably came from a Canadian boarding school . For me it is all a mystery . I once heard that there are Canadian family members that already had some more information about our Sioux family ancestry ,but some information is not the whole story . I once was in Canada in 1975 or 1976on family vacation and i was eight or nine years old at that time and we were in Ottawa ,Ontario ,i've seen Niagara Fall's and In Montreal we landed with airplane i think i remember well . We also went to a native Indian museum and i saw native Indian 's i felt a feeling like a sort of vibe or maybe a connection and i saw them standing outside the museum and they looked very serious,and a little sad to ,and also kind and soft and wise, and again today 2023 i see it also on a lot of very old pictures with native Indian on it . I am now 55 ,never forgot those people that day in Canada 🇨🇦 in 1975 or 1976. I was that little girl with the red hair and freckles ,and sunny brown skin in the summer in Canada that made my hair more blond. Canadian sun made my skin more nice brown😊then in Holland ? But the sun is everywhere the same 😊 My message here shared with you all,is to let people know that there are more Sioux descendants aware of there Sioux ancestry roots ,and they are everywhere on this planet .
