been listening to Coke Studio for the last 10 years and its been such a magical musical journey. I wish we had something similar in the UK that focused less on competition and more on collaboration. The closest is possibly Jools Holland. Hard to pick a favourite. Maybe Tinak Dhin as its so joyful

Ali Zafar is a legend, he is a singer, composer, actor, Painter. He is multi talented, he can make sketches and is very good at it. He can sing and is one of the living legendary Singer of Pakistan, He can act and have few Super hit movies both in India and Pakistan. Sara Hyder was one of the backup vocalists in coke studio, while Ali Zafar was/is an established artist with huge range in terms of vocal ability, (check out his song "Rockstar" for sample). So she was definitely awestruck here.

I believe the original song is from 1963! And idk too much about Sara except that she has been a background vocalist in the earlier seasons of Coke Studio and has had another duo in season 9, been on a few other pakistani music platforms too. Ali Zafar has been around for a long time. I think you've got so much more from Coke Studio to discover and appreciate its intricacies, you quite liked the guitar part and it reminded me of how much I love the electric guitar solo in the song 'Paar Channaa De' from season 9, you should give it a listen! The song includes a solo from Noor Zehra, the mother of the two male singers who appear in the song, and she plays the "Sagar Veena", a Pakistani plucked string instrument developed by Noor's father. The lyrics are based on a tale of two lovers

The original song sung by Salim Raza (a Pakistani Christian - only mention for awareness cause people think Pakistan is full of Muslims alone and minorities are not cared for) was one-dimensional in the sense he sang it for her. Coke studio have split this into a duet and changed the storyline a bit in the sense that she wants to be free/alone.

@@DivergentReactions I hope I haven’t confused things with the Christian reference. There are two types of songs. 1/ Film and 2/ non-film. Former are songs that were sang for a film so the SONGS storyline would fit the film and the scene. Example being Salim Razas Aye Dil. This song would be a love song where the hero is yearning for his love. In this case the films heroine. The latter are non-film songs, eg Ali Zafars Rockstar. These songs can have whatever storyline. In this case the song is full of satire and the reference to four wives is two-pronged (i feel) as mentioned in my other comment. Pakistanis and Indian films are normally all musicals in the sense that they have songs in them. A way of getting people to attend cinemas by marketing the film playing the songs on radio and television etc. In the very early days of film the protagonist would sing their own songs. This was in the 1940s. Later on something called playback singing was introduced where the singer is someone different whilst the actor or actress is someone else. This has been the norm since it started. It’s all playback singing now. Salim Raza is the singer in the original song of Aye Dil. The film is “ik tera sahara “ (just your reliance) and the actor might have been someone called Darpan (meaning mirror). The only reason I mentioned Christianity is because the original singer was Christian and has nothing to do with the songs storyline. Remember the songs is sang for a film and would fit the storyline of the film. The singer would be given instructions and what to sing and how to. Yes playback singers don’t write their own songs and nor do they compose them! (Bet you didn’t know that :-p). The songs storyline HAS been changed when Coke Studio decided to have it performed. They split the original lyrics between ‘him’ and ‘her’ whereas the original was just for ‘her’. There are no religious references here and I certainly hope I haven’t added more confusion by this comment!
