Medieval old town is really something! It is usually surrounded by walls for protection and the streets are narrow and winding. The walls made of brick or stone with round or square towers again for defense or decoration. I am enjoying your vacation there, 4 years seems like yesterday sometimes. L705

Wonderful video of Dinan. Southern France has of course many beautiful and historical cities and towns and blessed with a lot of sun. But regions in the northwest and northeast of France like Brittany, Normandy and Alsace are amazing too, with their well-preserved half-timbered houses from around the 15th and 16th centuries, the high-pitched roofs. In many ways (i.e. architecturally), northern France looks more like its European neighbors to the north while southern France looks more like it's European neighbors to the south.

Glad you liked my Dinan video! You are right - different regions of France have different architecture - and all terrific. We also loved the Dordogne region of France such as my Beynac and La Roque videos with stone hill-town villages - maybe more similar to those in the south. I have yet to visit Alscase, but it is on my bucket list! Your wonderful comment is well appreciated 😀. Thanks for watching, and have a great day 👍

I must be doing the list backwards, I have already seen the next one. This is an attractive old town, much more realistic than some footage I have seen from Germany where the old towns look like chocolate boxes. The basilica was very interesting, very classy piece of architecture.

Hi Steve! Glad you liked it. Dinan was one of my favorite villages and wish we stayed a night there. It was just a quick morning visit on our way to Mont St Michel. You're right, the half-timbered buildings here are different architecture than the fairly-tale Bavarian buildings in Germany/Austria. Take care my friend 😀👍

Wow what a beautiful medieval town! Beautiful structures , even the design of the door handle is unique. Love the cobble stone on the streets. We would love to see one like this in the future. That bell is huge, ringing every 15 mins must be hard for the locals:) The market looks so busy.

It’s called DINAN, not Dinone ! La Mere Pourcel is a lovely restaurant but book ahead as it gets VERY busy . Don’t attempt the Rue du Jerzual in high heeled shoes ! Stayed at the Port in a cottage there and in at least 4 other properties in high town. And I’ve with family in Lehon which is really lovely too .
@HaswellTravelled2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Apologies for my pronunciation. I had understood the French pronunciation to be more like "Dino". You are much more acquainted with it than I. I would love to visit longer stays as you have, spend time at the port, and visit Leohn nearby. Your wonderful comment is well appreciated 😀. Thanks for watching, and have a great day 👍

@@HaswellTravelled Sorry, I shouldn’t have criticised your accent ! 😢 BTW, if you have more time to spend there, take a little house or apartment in Lehon in the old ‘ chateau ‘ there. I’ve stayed there too several times, and it’s lovely and peaceful, an easy trip into Dinan , though I think the walk along the riverside is still closed due to rockfall, and in Lehon there is a tiny family run French restaurant virtually outside the door called La Marmite !

@HaswellTravelled2 жыл бұрын
Hello there! I'm not very knowledgeable on Dinan parking, but I do know the area we visited with access to Dinan's Old Town. There is two parking lots beside each other: Place Duguesclin and Place du marché. However, both of these are taken on Thursday morning for the Market as shown in my video. We arrived very early, maybe an hour or so before the market opened (was being setup), and we had difficulty finding a parking spot - ending up parking along Rue Joseph Lesage, south of the area 😀. Dinan is one place we would love to go back to and spend a night or two. Thanks for watching, and have a great day 👍

Your video is awesome! Can I ask what town/city you rented a car from? How is parking in Dinan itself? Is it free or is it a paid parking with time limits? Really hesitant to rent a car in France but looking at public transport, it looks like a major pain even from Paris. I rented a car in Germany several times during work trips and I found the rental car companies (rented from Hertz) to be too picky and overly scrutinize the car when you return it, not to mention how slow the return process is. Even the slightest scratch from removing luggage from the trunk is a big deal for them. Makes car rental in Europe, a negative experience for me.
@HaswellTravelled Жыл бұрын
Hi Dee. There is a large parking lot in Dinan (paid - I'm not sure how much) close to old town. It is where they hold the market. So only Market days it is unavailable, and I parked on a street a few blocks away as shown in the video. I have no problem with car rental in France. On this trip, I rented at Charles de Gaul airport and drove a rather long trip. I rent cars in Europe through www.autoeurope.com/ and select non-deductible. It is more expensive for non-deductible, but I like it worry-free. That way it shouldn't be a negative experience. To me it is worth it.
