G Day Shane, If you have the filter already why not go for the later and deeper filter bowl.

Well, that one requires a bit of followup and I may do a video on that subject at some point. I posted on the forum and Ollek said that there's a replacement kit for these early 990s that adds the full flow filter. The issue there is that kit uses a filter that doesn't have a hole at the bottom for the valve assembly like the 'normal' full flow filter. My tractor doesn't have the vacuum sender or electronics for the "newer" full flow filter. So I'd have to buy a new filter (or 2) with the kit. I may actually do that later in the year. Ollek also said that the screen and bypass filter I have works fine with the caveat that a bit more trash may make it into the bypass valve than with the full flow filter and I'm fine with that for a bit. Hi Shane, an other good one mate, for your strainer is it not worth getting a deep filter bowl and new strainer so you can put the full flow paper element in as well as a strainer. just a thought keep up the good work Barry

I didn't even think about that! I'll have to call around and see what I can find. Great idea!

Greetings Shane I agree with Barry would it not pay to get a deeper bowl second hand probably and use a full flow paper element on ebay they range from £12.59 up to £16 ish did see one from Germany over £34 I did find a new mesh filter from David Brown parts company but it's £170 without postage etc. My 880 selectamatic has the same mesh filter I use diesel then wash off with brake cleaner and a toothbrush but unfortunately toothbrush dunt taste nice afterwards 😉 😀 😜. I use a mf35 fuel filter for the bypass filter on top the axle never had any issues. Brilliant video you do sound like me but then your talking into the camera wherst I talk to myself 😆

I didn't even think about doing that till Barry mentioned it! Should be easy enough if I can find the parts and they aren't outrageously expensive. Was also thinking I might try my hand at soldering up the hole in the screen somehow just to see what would happen. I actually forgot I didn't have a full flow filter and ordered one. It's been sitting here above my desk for months. So I have the filter, I just need to put it in a housing! I talk to myself all the time out there working on stuff, camera or no camera. I figured it might be worth videoing, if nothing more than to let my kiddos make fun of me. 🤪🤣 Thanks for watching Jon!

I posted over on the David Brown Tractor Forum with a question about converting over to the full flow hydraulic filter. If you're interested, here's the link to that post: dbtc.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19196 Edit: As of January 2023, the David Brown Tractor Club site was hacked and the Forum post may or may not exist. Unfortunate situation where lots of knowledge on the forum was potentially lost. David Brown Parts LTD sells a kit to convert these early 990s to use a full flow filter, but the filter itself is different from the 'normal' full flow filter. The 'upgrade' kit filter doesn't have a hole at the bottom like the normal filter does.
