Glad you're on the mend! Something looks off to my eye, and that's likely just me. I think it's the pastel purple lacing. But again, it's really beautiful and even though it's not my taste, it's still really good. Thanks for showing so many techniques and to not give up on paint that's old! Sometimes we get hung up on using one technique over another ... over another ... and it's all fixable if you don't like it, yes? I mean, you just scrape it off. Or, if it dries funny, you just pour over it again. it's the canvas that's so expensive, not the paint. Many masters reused canvas over and over because 200+ years ago until today, it's the most expensive part of the work. Don't be afraid to experiment and lose a little bit of paint relative to the canvas. Save the canvas, and experiment again. No harm, no foul. Play, let your inner child out! Tilt and swipe and swirl and smash and paint with your fingers as much as you like! To me, it's all about the discovery. It's about the playfulness and frankly, the fearlessness of a child. It's not about the money. If you can make money, fabulous! But making a comfortable living doing art is a hard thing to achieve and it can be fleeting. Take Basquiat. Celebrated for a few years, having made friends with Andy Warhol. He made tons of money ... until he was irrelevant and eventually died of an overdose. The goal I've always had is to make enough from what I teach or sell to cover the expense of having to replace product. It's almost (in some cases) three times as expensive as it was before covid, whether it's medium or paint. Cheap, student canvas still seems to be reasonable. Have a day job, or at least something you can fall back on if sales/interest dries up. The most beautiful thing to me is to teach a class. I do not require an art background of any kind. I don't care if you can't draw a stick person without a ruler. Just TRY and see what happens. To make my students understand, ALL of my classes are "proof of concept". We're not making high art, or even good art here. It's about the experience and learning. Besides, someone will always like what you've done no matter what. "Proof of concept" in a technique takes away all of the fear of having to "do it properly". It doesn't have to be good. It can run or crack or get muddy, but the concept will still come through. When a student sees the concept work, it encourages them to try again. If a pour cracks, there's a very ancient Japanese technique called Kintsugi that can be applied with just paint instead of gold/silver/copper leaf if you get cracks and don't like them. Some cracks look really good as they are. But the absolute best? When I take the work away from a student so they can't see it when they've been SO critical of it ... walk a few feet away while they can't see it, turn the work around, and then show them what they actually did. Just those few seconds of not being buried in the details makes a huge difference in perception, especially for perfectionists. I've had students who never thought they could do art of any kind cry at seeing what they did once it was in perspective. THAT is the reason to teach. It may seem strange to some, but I also have everyone sign their work when it's done. Those who are still unbelieving of what they did will sign initials very, very small. Those who are proud of their work may sign initials, but you can easily see them (some names are very long so initials are appropriate). Those who are confident in what they've done will choose a light background to sign with a dark permanent, fine-tipped marker. Some will be a bit more confident and sign with paint. Those who aren't quiet so confident will sign in a darker area with the same permanent marker. Thus, you can, in a very practical way, judge how confident your students are in a matter of seconds.

Good to know I can use leftover paints that are old. I’m nervous about using paints that I’ve mixed up after a few weeks. LOL! Love the autumn colours but I’m really looking forward to spring and summer right now. I live in Northern Ontario in Canada and we have more snow on the ground right now than we’ve had all winter. I’m so done with a the cold. Looking forward to heat. Glad you’re feeling better Gilly.❤

Good afternoon pretty lady!!! I have a quick question about the software you use to display your completed paintings at the end of your videos? My husband is an artist...and wants to display his work...but would like the paintings to look as they would framed...what is the software you use? Your paintings look great...with or without the frames...IMO. =)
