Hey Dopefish, long-term ex WoW addict here. I played WoW when I was only a kid in school, played through TBC and then quit when Wotlk came out. I was an addict and since I quit, I had amazing experiences in real life but every time I think about WoW and how amazing it was like in your videos back then, I feel really nostalgic and sad how I will never get to go back in a time in my life like back then since it was one of the best times in my life with such a freedom. I never thought that I would find this video again, almost a decade later. But when I saw this video and heard the awesome trance music tracks... I couldn't hold back the tears. Life is really about choices, I sacrificed a lot in my life to play this game but I also sacrificed amazing experiences when I quit the game. There are so many things and places in vanilla WoW as well as TBC (which was the best expansion in my opinion), that is impossible to describe to someone who has never played the game back then. It's been such a long time, so I often refer people like us to "wallwalkers"... If you are a wallwalker, I hope you understand as well as share my feelings and memories. The best time of my life was at the time when I played this game and saw videos like these on warcraftmovies. I just wanted to say, thank you so much for making my life amazing back then with your videos... It truly changed my life even if I'm such a sad person now and don't have such a fun life anymore. But, I will never forget it even when I become an old man and die. Wallwalker for life!!!

I'm happy you enjoyed the movies back then, that they inspired you to explore aswell, and that you remember them to this day :) I wouldn't worry about missing out on any WoW experience though, since it was only mysterious back then and has since been turned outside-in and emptied of all mystery. I'm nostalgic aswell in the sense that there haven't really been any other game since then that has provided the same kind of feeling of exploration and discovery. I guess that's the flaw of experiencing things, since after you've experienced them, they won't be as impressive a second time around. I think you did well by leaving at that time, and instead keep those memories instead of losing the sense of wonder if you would've stayed :)

You're totally right, WoW is the greatest game of all time, you are not alone and millions of people have the exact same feelings! It's hard to describe to more recent gamers what the experience of classic WoW was like, the feeling of pure MYSTERY in all the lands, as all was not accessible even at lvl 60 and Blizzard slowly "leaked" the endgame content and lore hidden in the depths of Mountains and wider instances and storylines like Molten Core, Ahn Qiraj in Silithus, Kazzak/Portal in Blasted Lands, and Mt. Hyjal...the Exploration videos and wallclimbing era really captured that undying thirst for more by the community. We were ready for the game faster than Blizzard could make it for us, of course that isn't to say there wasn't plenty of other things to keep us occupied. When the Darkmoon Faire started Elwynn Forest was a busy hub of life like Central Park and people climbed in Stormwind

BURR! I'll always remember my time spent exploring, wall-walking, braving death zones and falling into those tiny pits that you wouldn't think were impossible to climb out of (and daring clueless friends to jump in). I went all over the map and beyond it. I found places I never saw documented by others at the time. I discovered awesome and unique platforms for epic duels. I journeyed across featureless deserts of terrain only traversible by wall-walking to find...admittedly lackluster areas while hunting for ways to other as-yet unclimbable areas. But that wasn't important. I was the rare few to ever go there and see these things. It wasn't sightseeing based on those who went before me. It was exploration and experimentation, to find my own way, to discover anything new, and see where I could get. I've long since forgotten the names of most zones but I'll never forget most of the places I went and the things I did.

I think it has to do with experience, and loss of wonder as we grow older. The more we experience, the harder it becomes to get new experiences for the first time. That, and since datamining and sources of information has become more prevalent, it has become way easier to look things up, so there's less unknown things. Though as we're heading with news/guide/wiki sites appropriating AI to regurgitate things they scraped online, and then from each others, we're starting to get more and more unreliable information again. Those sites lack fact checking, so one post stating something false easily gets reposted over and over again. Ex. for the longest time, sites were claiming that ingots could be used in Baldur's Gate 3 for smithing, which isn't the case. Goodness. Huge fan. I first saw this a couple years after it was released and promptly put it on my iPod Video and watched it. Over and over and over again. There was a time when I would watch it nightly before bed. The music and the nostalgia - all of it inspired me to continue exploring. I started playing in '05-06 and what drew me into WoW more than anything else was the fact that you could go almost anywhere. And if there was a place that you couldn't get to, it meant you had to try harder to figure it out. I have screenshot after screenshot of my own "achievements", reaching spots that I felt were special and rare. This video did it for me. The cinematic approach, the music, the humor - everything. Just love it. A massive thank you for putting it together! /bow

I actually got to play with you on a private wallwalking server back in the day. Ive watched this movie so many times, but its your music choices that keep me coming back. We live in a weird world where I get to ask "OK Google, play World on Fire Sarah McLachlan JunkieXL remix" and I get to hear the song. I really, really miss the old days of finding the smallest of exploits that made the game so much fun to run around and explore, and will always be a part of my younger days that newer players will never know. If for anything, please keep this up for the amazing music, and the Last Wallwalk was also an amazing playlist. I keep the Aurora remix of Ordinary World on a regular playlist.

Kind of cool that almost two decades later, the soundtracks of those videos are still being remembered. It's a pity The Last Wallwalk movie got muted on KZbin :/ Don't remember if I ever joined any private servers back in the day, other than hosting one for myself locally. I was pretty much done with the game after the Nogg-aholic release, and had to borrow a account to participate in the last wallwalk myself :') I'll keep this video up for as long as KZbin allows it. What you take away from any medium you consume is in the perspective of the beholder, so this movie wouldn't be considered awesome if it weren't for all the amazing people who watched it and deemed it as such. I like trying out new music styles for each video I make, and this was kind of my first foray into trance, so I picked the songs I liked and were able to portray the atmosphere of the movie. So I guess they worked out well as a trance starter pack, as I've heard more people getting into the genre after that. Also neat to hear you got into model editing, as that was kind of small community back then :) Still, I'm amazed that you (and others) manage to remember this movie even after such a long time. Devs need to forget about other games and get their own idea. Thats one mistake, taking example of big companies. To much you can fail on, when you look on a big company

Sitting with a glass of wine and watching this awesome video again, it´s like a periodic ritual to come back and search for "Dopefish exploration" on youtube when i am depressed, and i don´t know why but this video and music pumps me up and brings soooooo many memories from my good old teen years... In 2005 i was 15 years old, i was counting each minute so that i could leave school and run back home where i could jump into the awesome WoW world and community of that time, sitting till late night in front of my PC, i felt like time was soooo slow back then. Now time flies so fast that i can´t even understand how the fuck i am 27... If anyone in his teen years is watching this comment now, i´ll tell you a cheat: the most valuable thing in life is youth, don´t let it slip through your hands and enjoy every single moment of it. Some neat cool tricks I still remember from this time: Enter an instance. Wall climb out of it. And you would find the most amazing things. This is what we did in 29:49. In some instances, you could find areas where blizzard obviously had a great time messing around. The Deadmines, pre tbc for instance had a huge area of huge purple spheres (Like Dalaran pre tbc) floating in the sky. And floating trees that existed long before tbc, but wasn't in the game until then. I think the funniest bug I found was when we stood on a Zeppelin, boat, elevator or tram and used fear. If your character were to run on a steep terrain during the fear effect, for some reason this made your character fly away really fast and really far like in 37:05. If you did this at the old thousand needles elevator, you would teleport almost to Darnassus. If you did this in the stranglethorn>orgrimmar Zeppelin, you were teleported to blizzards playground area very far to the west. Flying there few times and not realising it, I think a really cool moment was when Dopefish said: "I think we just found Outlands". Good times. :)
@Dopefish10 жыл бұрын
We reproduced the part where my character reached the Outlands area for this video, and it's the 37:51 part. Don't see much of it, but just being at the outer edges of it was pretty awesome :) Nice of you to drop by Forg, and thanks for all your help in making this video ^^

The reason (as you might've guessed) the movie is called Nogg-aholic, is because the massive amount of Noggenfogger elixirs I had to buy since it had slowfall as one of the three random effects it could provide. I had Sprint as an ability since I were a rogue. It's also interesting how content that was teased almost 20 years ago is finally being released into the actual game.

It's pretty unlikely nowadays since data mining has become much more prevalent since then, but it was impressive how much WIP areas they had in the official builds back then. Thank you for enjoying my old WoW videos, and taking the time to comment on both of these. I replied to your question on the other video. Feel free to ask me if you got any more questions. Cheers!

Wow really alienated their base, didn't they.

I've not kept up with the game since I stopped playing, other than hearing that they kind of trivialized the story from Warcraft 3 and did a poor job of progressing it through WoW.

I'm just happy to hear you got to enjoy the sense of exploration aswell. Hasn't really been any game since WoW that been able to provide the same experience since. Cheers!

Those sweet Vanilla days when exploration really meant something. Great nostalgia movie :).

Man, this video is why I know about "Asura - Fahrenheit" and "Michael Woods - GameMaster (Michael Woods Remix)" at all. Great sense of exploration, great taste in music for 2005.

I was just starting out listening to trance when I made the video, so I might just have stumbled across the more popular ones at the time, but I tried to pick the ones who would fit the mood of the video :) Nowadays I'm more into retrowave ;)

Just found a link to this vid on a reddit post, I'm feeling quite lucky. I used to watch a lot of strange WoW vids about exploration, GMs, glitches, etc. when I was younger. At the time I didn't even speak English properly so remembering the names of the vids I used to watch is a bit hard. I'd always try to emulate them (often in vain but it was fun nonetheless) and I'd try to walljump on everything, I still do it in fact lol But holy shit does it bring me back... hearing "Straight to video" again may have hit the hardest haha. Bless you man
