An extremely interesting concept, a horn loaded, near field, Loudspeaker. I remember the JAES first published in the 1970's containing a paper from JVC, concerning the use of computational algorithms and LASER scanning to provide 3-D, graphical images of the wavefront launch of various transducer types, i.e., soft dome, metal dome, ribbon, piezoelectric, horn loaded compression transducer, etc. The graphical results illustrated that the horn loaded compression transducer was abysmal at providing a coherent wave launch, while the ribbon was clearly far and away the best at doing so. JVC was featuring their ribbon, so, caveat emptor. Your stained-glass terrarium brings back memories, as my Father used to make them as a hobby, as well as gluing up Microberlinia brazzavillensis, AKA, Zebrawood, blocks and turning them on a lathe, my favorite wood species.

I heard a horn speaker system, which has insane imaging and depht capabilities. I could point every instrument on the imaginary grid.

When I saw those as "sneak preview" in some of your previous videos, it really spiked my interest. To me this is pure exercise in engineering, what engineers do after hours when marketing guys go home. Yes they are not pretty, yes they look like they were designed by IKEA, but what matters is how they sound. Interesting to find that they are so near-field. One foot closer and you could call them headphones lol. And thank you for the effort of setting those in your room and going through all those amps - they sure do not look like "set it and forget it" set, I bet it took you at least a day to get them just right. Merry Christmas!

Most people do not understand the concept of a horn speaker design. My pro audio system consists of Bill Fitzmaurice designed cabinets. There isn't a brand out there that can come close to competing in SQ if you go $ for $. Not even the JBL VRX series of speakers. Great vid my friend!

Spent two hours in this room at Toronto Audiofest. My uncle fell in love with them, whereas I was impressed but not blown away. The tonality on these is amazing and there is a sweetness to the midrange. The design limitation is that the sound is too directional. You have to be dead centre or else you will hear each channel sepreately and it will break the image. If you have a single seat and see music as an anti-social retreat, you will love these. But if you want to share the musical experience in your room every now and then with a small audience, these won't work.

Excellent review Jay. I absolutely love to see designers thinking outside of the box. Most modern speakers now remind me of the super boring SUV car appliance that is almost a car industry monopoly now unfortunately. These speakers show that one can find super interesting builds from designers willing to think outside of the normal boring box. Very well done!

I have a speaker, actually an 8-in subwoofer speaker with no box or enclosure hanging about a foot above my TV screen, used as the center channel wired in "series parallel" with two 3" paper drivers on the side walls also with no enclosures-all connected to a cheap ass amp-I used a very old Dynaco three-channel derived center stereo wiring and it sounds amazing all together it came in under $50 💪.

OMA on a real budget!!! Oh I know what would go with these. The original Leak stereo 20 has a new amp called the stereo 21A I think. It's 14 watts of incredible drive and magic. As these are not the usual flared horn, aka OMA, I imagine the little EL84 circa 4K would be a match made in heaven 🙂

Hey there! I don't know if you'll read this or answer, but I'll give it a try: If I had 1000€, which would be your go to amp for clarity, bass, and headroom? Driving anything from vintage Klipsch (KG 3.2), JBL L96, to KEF 104/2. Currently only using a Pioneer a30... I just don't know if I really can't find any better niche brand other than the mainstream brands, which is better.

good lord. its kinda like an engineer comes up w a design that is inherently flawed and decides to throw more money/ features at it to fix it. start over. just my 2 cents. maybe they will figure out this fussy speaker before they add wings, drop a diesel engine in it and put it on wheels.
@Jayiyagi Жыл бұрын
Way more finicky legendary horn speakers from the past. You can see it as inherently flawed but is it if it sounds magical like no other speakers on some tracks it is made for? I call that a specialized speaker. Not a flawed one. But thats just me
