Hey zack, us TØP fans knew you would love this. This song is the first song off Vessel album that introduces us into the mind of Tyler and the rest of vessel. Migraine, car radio, trees, which you have already done, also Guns for hands and Holding onto you are two you should do from vessel also after the trilogy wraps up. Obviously lots of mental health stuff and deep lyrics but the music and sound is sooooo good. Yes, this is kinda the anthem if they have one. Also, the way they introduce us to every album is insane. First song from Vessel is Ode to sleep, Blurryface is Heavydirtysooul, and trench is Jumpsuit. All the most significant songs in the storyline of the album. I really really love your reactions, and they way you smile and sick back with amazement and watch these guys. Even the “no friggin way” lines are great. “Who does this?” Is also a popular one with these guys, which just elevates them even more in my book. Anyway, thanks for making my morning a good one as I sip on coffee… have a great day

2011 is when Josh joined TØP, but the band formed in 2009 with 2 other members. They played a lot of shows in the Columbus area. When Tyler decided to keep TØP as a duo, he knew they would need to add elements to their live show to grab people’s attention. Josh quickly realized that the gorilla suit was a dumb idea 😹 but they both still wear the skeleton hoodies. And yep, Tyler loves that floral shirt! They focused on live shows to build a following and their live concerts are still their heart and soul. I love how the video switches to live concert audio at the end. You can hear the audience singing every word! Tyler’s friend Mark Eshleman is Reel Bear Media and he captured a ton of early footage and did their early videos. He’s been working with TØP since 2010 when I believe he was a film student. He is still actively involved with many aspects of their creative content, including livestreams and tour vlogs.

Regarding rhe synths. Tyler writes the songs with the live show in mind.😮 They have never been shy about using backing tracks. They created these tracks. SInce there are only two of them, they needed to learn how to put on a great show even with just a duo. Josh triggers the tracks. Back then he has a laptop beside his drums to trigger the tracks. Now he uses a drum pad.

This song took me a long time to fully understand and truly fall in love with. After going through Trench, I fell back into Vessel and was blown away all over again. Keep this going please! Watching you go through their journey is amazing. Everyone is going to tell you their most known songs but I say go through all of them. It's worth it |-/

this is a video everyone should see - especially now, when a lot of people want to portray they've always been the shit - the lyrics are a little hard to catch - especially the last part because it's no longer the recorded version, that's all live from that concert (the last part is all from the same show, just different portions of that show) the lyrics are really deep though in the last verse - a lot of stuff about how he denies his religion in his music weird fact - The Basement is actually right next door to this last venue in Columbus - you can literally see it from the stage

hope you can get some sleep now! your reaction was a good way to start my day today, thanks. they use backing tracks, which they create, for the parts they can't play on stage and josh triggers these throughout the show. They let fans name this song, they put out a table at their shows with a few name options and fans voted for 'Ode to Sleep', I love that the name of the song isn't directly pulled from the lyrics.

One unique thing about Ode to Sleep is that it travels that cyclical pattern of day to night to day, and on, and on. Starting the day confident and inspired before the day wears on you and the different challenges build before the day ends and you start fresh again. The mood of the music follows that pattern along with the lyrical content.

Sure someone already said, but they both have triggers on stage to manage tracks. Usually it's Josh, but it's all on stage and handled by them. There are some old documentaries clips in a series called "Two Piece" I believe, where they lose members and have to figure out how to manage the different instruments and/or tracks and sorta create their own system.

every time that camera pans over those 6000+ people during the last intermission throws chills down my spine every single time, what an amazing journey also all those people reciting his lyrics with him while he sings, I can't imagine how that feels to them that there are so many people out there that appreciate them like that

If you are appreciative of his lyricism at this young of an age, then you should check out the old old stuff that he wrote in high school. Technically some of the songs on the first couple of albums after being signed had earlier versions but still. He has always had a lot going on in his head. Great reaction!

First video I’ve checked out on the channel! Came up on my recommended and loved your insights! I also watch this music video like a ‘proud mum’ lol! Gives me chills to see how far they’ve come! Fantastic live show!

Sooo good watching you enjoy watching it for the first time, wish I could watch it for the first time again 😂 I agree with you, if I had to name one song and video that summed up tøp it would be this one. Not the song I’d recommend to anyone to listen to as their intro to them. Since you asked about the backing track, Tyler does most of them, gets other producers in to assist these days. Josh controls them when playing live. Tyler is a self taught musician, first on piano, I guess next was production in a DAW, then ukulele at some point, and then bass guitar and then guitar. Josh can play the trumpet too.

Smiled the whole time watching you admire what they've done and how far they've come. And now you know what we know, how truly awe-inspiring this duo is. From subject matter to lyrics to switch ups to performance, Ode to Sleep is the epitome of TOP. Your points were on point in this one, great reaction!! And they are two of the most down to Earth people. You should def ck out some of their interviews. They're hilarious! |-/ ❤

I've seen these guys live 3 times over here in the UK. Their live shows is what TOP is all about. Their Video's, although A1 is nowhere like seeing them live they are on another level. I chuckle to myself because I found REN several years ago whilst on a weekend trip to Brighton. I had the same feelings about Ren as I did about TOP. I just needed to understand what made them tick. I feel very lucky to have seen and followed them both ahead of the curve. Both are still my top artists today. ❤from the UK 🇬🇧

They did most of there early concert with some prerecorded tracks . Tyler dose most of the synth other keyboard and base and other instruments.. both of them can control kind of like looping.

Great reaction. The times where you couldn't find the words, you had too many thoughts at once, is exactly how I felt diving into many of their songs for the first time. There is so much to pay attention to from the lyrics, the music, the video, and even what they are wearing. I enjoyed your reactions to this.

Some of the lyrics are hard to understand in this video especially the rapped verse which has a lot of biblical references, but yeah the it's about how Tyler's dark thoughts come at night and leave during the day. In the day he's ok but then nigh comes again and he can't sleep, and can't kick the demons out until the sun rises once again. This is also the overall theme of the whole Vessel album. Reel Bear Media is Mark Eshleman who has been their videographer from day one until the present day. They still work with a lot of the same live crew too in terms of their sound and lighting etc.

to me “ode to sleep” is the introduction of twenty one pilots after josh dun joined. “kitchen sink” is their mission statement. these two songs have always been the cornerstones of the foundation for what they built and have become. (btw you really need to react to kitchen sink) |-//

Notice the trust Tyler has with the fans from the beginning at the end of the song. And you are right this is an anthem/ode to the band and this video personifies that
