WOWT 6 Omaha - Calendar of Events and Sign Off (4-18-1980)

Two commercials for Brandeis and Roll-A-Matic sponge mop precedes the station's "Calendar of Events", set against filmed scenes of kite flying at Mid-town Omaha's Memorial Park, with the music in the background of Alan Parker's "Happy Guitar" piece. A cool green neon station ID, Future Farmers of America performing "The Star Spangled Banner" film, 1965 Seal of Good Practice slide, along with Dale Munson's voiceover round out this terrific sign-off. And at the very end of the clip, after the station cuts the juice, is a bit of an audio bleed of Bob Seger's "Rock and Roll Never Forgets" which I'm very sure came from KEZO-FM (Z-92).

WYTV in Youngstown, Ohio also used the Future Farmers of America SSB film (late 1970s-early 1980s)

The Future Farmers of America SSB was also used by WBNG-TV in Binghamton, NY and by WBZ-TV in Boston. And the last part of the sign-off was done live by Mr. Munson noting the day and just as the test pattern comes up there is some kind of noise...maybe putting down his headphones.

Actually this sign off came on a late Friday night (April 18th, according to what was listed in one of my old TV Guides) airing of the 1970 Godfrey Cambridge movie "Watermelon Man". This entire clip came on roughly after 2am. Hope that helps.

@@MrYoumatic, Mr. Munson should've realized that April 18, 1980, is the 109th day of the 31st year of telecasting for WOWT 6. The reason, 1980 was a leap year, it happens every 4 years. Next year (2020) is a leap year. Just think since 1980: 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 have all been leap years.

However, WOW-TV/WOWT signed on the air Aug. 29, 1949. So technically, Apr. 17, 1980 was the 212th day of their 30th year of telecasting.
