I had the privilege of seeing this layout, and it is truly excellent at every level. Scenes are realistically staged, painted and weathered - Rob is an amazing artist - just look at the backdrops that he painted. One of the best layouts I have ever seen. I'm glad to see this video to remind me of this fine layout.

Great layout. As others have already said--it's excellent on every level. One thing that hits me every time I see Rob's layout is his superb choice and mixture of colors in the scenery and backdrop.

Been following Rob's layout for a number of years now, mostly via MRH forums where Rob has a blog. Backdrops and scenery are super realistic and inspiring. Since much of his scenery techniques transfer well to the west end of the D&RGW, I've been practicing some of them such as rivers and desert scrub brush made (using pant stripper pads). Rob runs a similar time period as my interests and WP and D&RGW handed off freight trains to each other in the late 70's and early 80's, so the traffic represented in these scenes is very similar to what I am planning to run, bar the coal trains D&RGW ran. I just subscribed, you have a wonderful layout. I'm building a new layout. I am working on the room right now. Your layout is very inspiring to me. I love how some parts are narrow but still have scenery and great backgrounds. Do you have track plan? What size room is the layout in? I'm thinking I will need different levels like yours to get it all in my plan.

I live in Michigan... I make my videos visiting model railroads around the county. A few have been in Utah.
