If you overwrite code in a theme, once the theme is updated your code would be removed unless you added it in a child theme.

My local Primary School is having an Internal Server Error and asked whether I could have a look. In our circumstance we can't access the WP backend either, but you seem to be able to do it here. They seem to be running WP "2011" theme too. I tried the renaming of .htaccess as well as "plugins", and even "themes", folders separately but issues still persisted. I think it's one for the Hosting company...

When you changed the htaccess filename, then updated pernalinks ... ect. Do you not need to go back and remove the htaccess file name edit you did? Or you just leave it with the new name... i noticed a new htaccess file was created, do i then need to delete the renamed files?

We would recommend removing the renamed htaccess file if that resolves the issue unless there are setting in the file you want to remember in which case we would recommend creating a backup of the file on your computer before deleting the renamed files.

That file shouldn't be blank, you may want to check with your hosting provider to see if they have a backup of your wp-config file that is not blank.

By renaming the htaccess and resaving permalinks you are testing if there are any errors specific to the htaccess settings that you had previously. I was able to fix it. None of these actually helped me though. I just created another admin user and that one had no error. It's kind of a stupid mistake, but I thought I should comment here how to fix it in case anyone is as dumb as me ]
