Praying for these people. Such a horrible tragedy and so hard for them being on an island. Our family room roof blew off during Irma as a tornado within the hurricane hopscotched through our neighborhood. The damage you don't see is water gets in the walls from the rain of the hurricane and mold starts to grow if it isn't dried out ASAP. Walls lean out since there is nothing to hold them up straight. Electrical wiring is ruined, drywall/plaster and insulation too. I am praying for these people. My husband is a contractor but even so it took way too much time before the insurance company gave us the funds we needed to replace the room. I can't imagine whole towns needing to replace their homes and businesses. Even just roofs missing are pretty much equal to that part of the building needing to be replaced, except for cement blocks and tile floors.

I'm in Brevard county, and in Broward county when Andrew was expected there (but the "wobble" every hurricane does spared us for s.dade) then worked in Dade immediately afterwards. And one thing average American s need to realize, ANYWHERE In the hurricane belt you have to be in a solid wall construction, poured every 4th column block , anything OTHER THAN a pre-90's built "stick" frame construction (as I'm currently in) the will not stand in 140+ gusts let alone roofs stapled on and Staples NEXT TO trusses (instead of IN the trusses... Thank You GDC, And Cruddy pre Andrew building code 👍🤓)

Great reporting, wish we had more sincere and accurate reporters like Denise, a very beautiful woman as well. Very sad, the Bahamian people are so wonderful and resilient too. They often take the full impact of storms heading to the mainland. Many structures had some roof covering which aided with survival, but drowning is a larger problem in the low neighborhoods. We lost almost 40 people in Ivan '04, friends living 2\3 mile from Santa Rosa Sound swam 1\3mile for their lives at three a.m. after 18 foot of surge wiped foundations clean. Marsh harbour, Abaco is so beautiful and will be again, islands are always more difficult to rebuild, thank God the towns that were wiped out tend to be small populations.

Julie Wilbur Julie, step back from your emotions and take a deep breath, ❄️ snowflake. You really HAD to put politics into this?? Obviously you’ve seen hard times, both physically AND emotionally and for that, you get my PITY. Scott Leachman is RIGHT to a degree. We just don’t have the money to KEEP rebuilding these places just to have them blow away again. I worry a little more about the FAMILIES who are displaced now. THEY will be needing our compassion and generosity. As for rebuilding...who’s going to insure? And at what cost to US? As to people’s political affiliations, there are those (maybe even yourself) who think standing in line, waiting for daddy gub’ment to step in and fix everything, then there are those who actually WORK (Republicans & others like myself, who is not Republican, for clarities sake) toward making things better for THE GOOD OF ALL. Wouldn’t you rather more FREE STUFF, WIC, food stamps, that monthly check...? Sorry ❄️, we can’t do it ALL! How about YOU make a donation of LOVE, SWEAT & TEARS...THEN tell the rest of us how lacking WE are? Money is NOT the solution for everything. People who actually EARN theirs, know this!

The last one decimated Egypt for century’s. So Gods judgement is full of Mercy but it doesn’t last forever. And he does, sometimes judge a nation on the actions of their leadership.
