FYI: In the US, states are made up of counties (or other names such as Parrish). These are further made up of cities. Within a state, you could have different sales taxes among the various counties in that state AND then you may have additional sales tax adjustments by cities. Crazy, but that's the way it is.

Hi there! Thank you very much for explaining this, it is such a mystery for me as a guy from the Netherlands (Europe)! Indeed it’s tax upon tax, way more sophisticated then our country (just 2 rates which apply to certain products, no matter where you are in the country!) thanks again and have a great day!

@@WPressDoctor it's crazy here. In some towns, where it's oppressed areas like New BRunswick NJ, it's 3.5 percent to encourage people to shop there. Also, no tax on clothing or food here and many services.

@@WPressDoctor On top of what @gts6889 said, in some states of those states with 3 tax rates. Oklahoma for example; a state tax, a county tax and a city tax, and you pay all 3. Now stack on top of that the fact that a city can be in more than 1 county and you have a real mess. In Oklahoma for example taxes need to be calculated by address to make sure that you are charging the proper county tax because the city could be in 1 of 2 or 3 different counties. It's a nightmare.

Thank you so much. Much easier to follow than the woocommerce tutorial about tax setting. I have a question: When I put item incl tax for 100€ and I sell it to Germany it would be 100€-19%, to Spain 100€-21%, Canary Island 100€-15% right? So can I set up 80€ regular price and add tax depending on shipping address AND hide it same as show price inclusive tax? I mean, depends on where the customer is the total price shows differently?

Thanks for the wonderful video. I am building my webshop in Sweden, and until seeing your video, I had my tax settings "Enabled automated taxes", and prices excluding tax. I am planning to sell stones and crystals to private customers in Sweden, Scandinavia, EU and worldwide. Also just like you, I will have different products like stones, books, and even food with different tax rates. And in my TAX settings in Wordpress, it says "Your tax rates and settings will be automatically configured for Sweden." What kind of settings do you suggest for my tax settings? I would appreciate it :)

Hi there! Thanks for the comment! Well as it is in Europe I would go with manual tax. Then start with Sweden and then fill all the classes in - for books, food, stones, crystals. I think Sweden has 3 taxes just like the Netherlands? Then every single product should get in the right tax class. Then gradually add more countries and check the tax rates per country. I guess that is the best way?

PLEASE HELP; It would be greatly appreciated. I am not a web developer. I am just creating my 1 e store& praying the only thing I need to do once done is update all my plug-ins, add/remove items for sale, and change some visual aspects via my webbuilder once I am bored of the design. Why make/use a 2nd list for taxes (ex. Reduce)? Can't you just have taxes data under the same standard list? What is does the priority column do exactly? Should we keep every entry as 1? What happens when you put 2 or 3? How would the tax be displayed if you don't write anything under the name of the Tax column?
@WPressDoctor
@WPressDoctor 7 ай бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for the questions. Let me try to answer them: 1) The lists are created for as your country charges different kind of taxes. So 21% for products and 10% for state tax or something like that. 2) it makes sure that first the important taxes are done, so you could prioritize them 😀 3) that’s a good question. Just try! Remove the name and then put it back in again 😄

Nice video! But I've looked everywhere even considered doing automated taxes because I can't figure this out. How do I enter or set up taxes manually for NY,USA? There are 3 tiers of taxes. Sales in state of NY but outside city only 4% State sales tax imposed. Sales in NY state WITHIN the city boroughs it's 4% state tax PLUS 4.5% City tax PLUS 0.375 MCTD Tax...For total of 8.875% At the minimum I must somehow enter totals as 4% for state, and 8.875% for city. How? And how to I apply city tax rate just to our 5 boroughs that make up nyc? 🤔 Confused.

I have a question that is a bit extensive, if I open a store that is available worldwide, it means without restrictions from which country you buy. How do I set the tax on such a store website? It's impossible to set every tax in the world, I think that's crazy. What I read in the comments is that in that case it is only necessary to link the tax to the country of origin of the store, if I'm not mistaken? But in that case, it is not clear to us that there is an option, let's say I put an example on several countries, for example US, UK and NL, the exact taxes, and then we have the option to put the taxes on all other countries, for example, at 22%, in that case we are making a mistake, because taxes are not the same everywhere, somewhere they are less than 22%, and somewhere they may be higher than 22%. What happens in that case? Or if it happens in case the tax is wrong, what are the consequences? :D
@WPressDoctor

Hi there and thanks for your question. To be absolutely sure we need to talk to a tax-professional in your country. Because if I sell from my country to inside the EU or outside the EU, there are different rules. Your accountant should advise you about this as the rules vary per country you live in. Sorry 😃

Ik snap de taxen niet bij shipping. Stel dat ik 6.40 aan Bpost betaal voor een pakje te verzenden, Moet ik de klant daar boven op nog is extra 21% laten betalen om van Belgie in het binnenland te verzenden?
@WPressDoctor
@WPressDoctor Жыл бұрын
Goedenavond!

It still displays the full amount incl. 21% vat. When i do for other EU countries it is calculated okay with the total amount the same but the vat from the EU country and the subtotal reduced with the calculated vat. Hi Manuel, it sounds like you should change the settings to “show prices including VAT” or make sure to check the setting “add prices with or without VAT”. If your not sure, just try to change it 😀

@@WPressDoctor I am sharing with you the settings I made in the backend prnt.sc/w3k68gKtgnpo and here is what an end user sees in cart prnt.sc/WMnrLfBGzrsn . The total price of the GOLD package is 500 EUR. Thus, I don't understand the calculation logic of Woo Commerce which is showed in the cart. Do you have any idea on how to solve this?

Thanks for your video but how Do you know what tax charge should be? For example I Not register Vat so still I need charge vat or is different tax I from 🇬🇧

@WPressDoctor 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Daivaras, well that depends on your country. In my country you may earn money and you don’t have to pay the VAT taxes until you reach a certain amount (€20.000 for example). So you have to dig in and do research about that, I don’t know the rules of England 😀

Always count in the tax and after a month you wire it to another bank account. Then If you don’t have to pay it, you can keep it, but when you have to pay it, you got it in a separate account 😀

I thought if you dont have a presence in a foreign customers country, you don't charge sales tax. Can you clarify please

This is different per country, but indeed some times you don’t pay taxes when your selling to other countries!

Hi there, great tutorial. I'm from Canada and for instance in the province of British Columbia, we have 2 separate taxes: 7% PST (Provincial Sales Tax) and 5% GST (Goods and Services Tax which goes to the federal government) and these taxes must be charged seperate and itemized in the checkout. Do you know how this can be done to charge 2 different taxes to a province?
@WPressDoctor
@WPressDoctor 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thank you for writing this message. Yes that should be possible! Just create more rows per province and make sure to use the right settings for the tax to be stacked or not 👍🏻

hi, how I can apply multi taxes on the same product, for example if there is 2 taxes on one product like Sales Tax and product Tax, if the sales tax is fix I simply can merge it at the product tax, but if the sales tax are varying based on the Zip code so it will be impossible, any advice? and is there any ways to apply taxes for category in place of product?
@WPressDoctor
@WPressDoctor 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tariq, thanks for the question. This is something I did not explain very well in the video, sorry for that. It’s possible to add taxes per zip code or city, just go to the rows where you set taxes and change zip codes there. I think that should work. 😀

Hey, can you make a video on taxes related to digital products like eBooks, and courses on WordPress? Is it compulsory to charge taxes on digital products

Hi there! Yes that’s a good idea, I’ll add it to my list! The tax rules differ from country to country, so just do a little research for your country 😀

It depends on which country you live in. In Canada, it's mandatory to charge tax on digital products.

Stop being apathetic. 21% is outrageous. I can guarantee they could supply the same services for 1%. Taxes are a con and people who buy into the gaslighting of the 'roads', 'hospitals' as the excuse for high taxes deserve what they get.

Hi there and thanks for your comment! When traveling the world, cities with high taxes and no corruption really are better looking out for their citizens in my opinion like West Europe. I now live in Portugal where there is some corruption and 20+% taxes... its very different. But hey, I don't run cities so who am I to argue 😁 Have a great day and stay safe!

Hi there! Thanks for the question. If you want to the VAT breakdown, you need to change a setting in WooCommerce which will say something like “show calculation in cart and checkout”. It’s somewhere there, I also always have to look for it 😎
