This was the BEST station! They had a show on Sunday nights called "Jazz Flavors", which I listened to while studying for Monday morning college exams. It kept my sanity!

They don't make radio stations like that anymore. Or personalities for that matter. Thanks for sharing.

So many iconic places mentioned . Having been living in Florida for the last several decades, it really brings some memories. Quixie and 94Q were the best for most of my younger years. The personalities were the reason I got my 3rd phone at 17 yrs old.

I took that DJ class from Dain Shult in 1977/78 at GSU. Dain told me I slurred my words too much but that's because the class was late at night and I was always drunk. I went on to have a moderately successful tenure at several radio stations until I got married and had to get a real job.

This is a REAL longshot, but does anyone know of anywhere I can find some recordings or archives of the talk radio show host 'Ike Newkirk'? His show was called Open Line, it aired on 94Q for a long time. I would have been listening in about 1987 and 1988.

Thanks for sharing Tom Sullivan. Is that you as Roland Pritchett? Several times over? You turned 10 but sounded so much older when you won the albums! Did anyone ever catch on that Roland Pritchett kept winning things? I was born in '66 so this era is right in my wheelhouse, along with Z93 and later 96 Rock (I was into pop in the 70s, more rock in the 80s) and Fox 97. Funny story, when WSB re-branded the FM station as AC/soft pop 98.5, in late 83 or early 84 (in which they actually had a $10,000 contest to name the station and the winner was "B98.5", I think they could've saved the $10k, interesting article on litigation and the move away from 99FM here, though I think the dates are off a few years: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WSB-FM), they also had a contest giving away 99 of McCartney's "Pipes of Peace" album. To the first 99 callers! I won 10 of them. One person was answering the phone, and she had to get the winner's name and address, so it took several hours to give away all the albums. I was like #3, #12, #17, #22, etc. As time went on, callers dropped off and it was easier to get through and win. I stopped at 10, being fatigued myself! And running out of names, and hoping they didn't see the pattern of the 2 different addresses I had to send the albums 2. How could there be 10 winners from Jackson, GA, a town of 5,000 people?!?! I"m sure they must have known what was happening, but didn't care. Kept having to try to change my voice too! Fun times. I have tapes of myself winning things on the radio from the 70s and 80s, including the "Perfect Album Side" during Willard's show on 96 Rock circa 1987. By then, I had been a DJ at a small station for a few years. Fun times.

Haha, further in and recognize your voice winning all these contests. Did you win one of the five trips to Mexico??? And the News of the World album by Queen??? My fave album of theirs. That's rad man! And are you the woman as well? Teenie? :)
