All of the conviction goes out of his voice after: "Mongrel intruder". The second he clocks us as tarnished, everything he probably knew deep down but didn't want to admit, was confirmed. The crusade was a one-way trip, his Mother would never welcome him back, he knows what it means for us to be stood before him. He's been rejected and erased from history, and we are the hope that Marika put her faith in. He doesn't sound bored, he sounds utterly heartbroken.

Messmer used to be in The Lands Between. He was impaling the giants on their mountaintop with Godfrey and he used to hang out with his little brother Radahn. Then he got a mission to rain hell on the Hornsent in the Shadow Realm. His closest followers joined him. After many, many years and no respons from Marika the poor soul fears that Marika has abandoned them. Then Messmer meets you, a tarnished shorn of light who Marikas is supporting. Despite her having told him to kill everyone in the Shadow Realm who is "Shorn of light" .Making all his sacrifices for nothing. He takes off his Seal of Grace Eye that Marika put in, and lets the serpent overtake him. In his dying breath he curses Marika. BTW this is probably not the first time the tarnished sees Messmer. As the tarnished was a part of Godfreys army before being sent away.

cuz he is a totally obligatory boss and just like morgott he cant be so hard cuz people needs to defeat him and thats why Malenia can be so damn hard cuz she is totally optional. so yeah, and about the final boss... well idk man, but you can always use "the wall" build for beating him

@@donpablacho400 This is the 1 time where a main boss deserved 2 full hp bars. Literally everything about this boss would want people to enjoy him for way longer. And him deserving 2 hp bars is a very common sentiment as well. At the very least, he deserved a 3rd phase.

This girl is very entertaining, her love for the lore is great, her reaction to Mesmer , made me want to dive into this character. Elden Ring lore can be hard to get into since it’s not spoon fed.. but she somehow gets you to care.. about them.. To me the most memorable boss character is Rennala.. due to the fight being so different.

I loved your reactions, i had similar reactions to his fight. Ive also listened to his OST atleast once aday every since the dlc came out. I wanted an elden ring tattoo ever since i first beat the game, but i wanted to wait to see what the dlc had to offer, and oh boy messmer is just straight SSS tier. His lore is so incredibly sad and in some regards i also vibe with his character alot. (not the genocide or arsonist parts xD)

6:06 I don't think he'd pure evil. Marika's people got tortured and stuffed into jars by the Hornsent here which is why she sent Messmer here to take revenge on them. Then she abandoned him here in solitude (which is why he probably sounds so defeated) cause she was afraid of his fire and his snake curse I think. That's why she also replaced his good eye with that yellow grace seal, to keep the abyssal serpent at bay.

It was either him or Marika who tried to heal people from jars in the underground hospital in Messmer's keep. They probably had some degree of success - as it seems, the tree wardens near Minor Erdtrees were result of this experimentation.
