I'm an Estwing fan. The all metal design for their axes as well as their hammers are the best. I've used their 2lb shop hammer after years of wood and fiberglass handles and fell in love. The wear and tear on your joints are minimal with their all steel design.

I got a throwing knife and 7 inch bayonet style knife from them and I gotta say that throwing knife was as sturdy as a railroad tie and the other, which I call my "camp knife", has been thoroughly abused over the last 6 years and isn't any worse for wear, aside from a small nick in the edge and a heathy patina of course. I attest to Cold Steel build quality and material. If I were being nitpicky though, neither of my knifes came with a particularly sharp edge, and each has a sheath that leaves something to be desired. Still, great quality overall and outstanding bang for your buck.

Years ago in Canada, the Hudson's Bay Axe, Norland being the most respected brand, was an excellently balanced axe with high grade steel. The shape was versatile for felling, bucking as well as cleaving, with a bias towards felling.

My Trail Boss has taken the best edge of any of my axes however the handle is starting to split near the head with 0 overstrikes and little use. I would offer the Council Tool 28" Boys axe as an equal to the Trail Boss and made in the USA here in North Carolina.

LL Bean used to sell the Hudson Bay Cruising Axe if I remember. It's been 40 plus years. You are spot on. An amazing tool. smaller, lightweight, sharp as a razor but definitely a tool that any woodsman wants. Heavy enough to drive modern wedge, make push poles in a hurry or free a bound saw. (My early days😬😆😅😂) Also great for limbiing and removal of oversized scrub when reclaiming of fields pasture. It's lighter weight and at my age that's a big deal. 😂
