Another great project Cody. Sorry to nit pick, but the Renaissance master that drew the perfect circle by hand was Giotto di Bondone. He was marketing himself to the pope for a commission to build a chapel. So when asked about his skills as a precision draftsman, Giotti simple free hand drew a perfect circle.

Mr Wranglerstar! I would better cover those holes You made at 9:50 in epoxied fiberglass , with something water resistant, cause those holes are easy way for water to get into plywood and start to ruin it.... Best wishes from Ukraine!

I do residential siding and door and window replacement for a living. We deal with fixing water leaks on a daily basis. From experience I've learned that silicone is not the greatest for a long term sealant. It just doesn't weather well over the years. I think it has something to do with the expansion and contraction during season/temperature changes. It likes to un adhere from whatever surface you are trying to seal after a couple years. I recommend using OSI Quad Advanced Formula Window, Door, and Siding Sealant. That stuff is awesome! It's easy to apply and lasts forever! I'm not saying what you used will not work. I'm just recommending a better alternative if you run into any problems down the road.

I sealed up a greenhouse roof glass with OSI and the following season it leaked like a sieve. My recommendation would be butyl caulk.

***** Hmmm I'm sorry to hear that OSI didn't work for you. I personally haven't had any issues with it. Did you clean the surface before applying? Did you also make sure you got good penetration of the troublesome spots? Also may I ask you which of the OSI's did you use? They have a few different types.

The artist was Giotto, this is straight from Wikipedia so it is "probably" true. "when the Pope sent a messenger to Giotto, asking him to send a drawing to demonstrate his skill, Giotto drew, in red paint, a circle so perfect that it seemed as though it was drawn using a compass and instructed the messenger to give that to the Pope."

"For the sake of perfection": I would recommend not gluing in a pattern that encloses on itself. When you press down the air is trapped in the center and crates a positive pressure. For this application I'm sure it's just fine, especially since it's also screwed down. However, when gluing laminates, flooring, or tile be cautious of this as it hinders good adhesion. It's one of the main reasons of popped tile/flooring. Great video and project though!

Good work doing a two-man job (putting the lid on without making a mess of the silicone) with one man. AQ-ing here. I would suggest making a "clean-up" cut on one end of the steel tubing, taking off just enough to get a good cut, then cutting the other end off so you have a longer piece of tubing as the "waste". Gives you a longer, possibly more usable piece of scrap tubing. Michelangelo would be impressed with that glue pattern. ETA: Okay, Giotto di Bondone would be impressed with that glue pattern.

wranglerstar The holes you drilling in the base, into the marine plywood should be sealed to help stop water from wicking into the ply and rotting it over time. Just a quick application of a urethane sealants, oil-based paint, or other similar type coating around the inside walls of the hole will do the trick.
@sethbraunstein2552
@sethbraunstein2552 9 жыл бұрын
Just an idea, but heres a tip to help prevent the plywood from rotting from water seeping in laterally through those holes you drilled. Drill the holes oversized, and either glue in a short section of pvc pipe, or fill the entire hole with epoy and csm flake, then drill the correct size hole again, leaving a collar of epoxy. Both methods are used when restoring boats.
