Nice videos! I'm binge-watching your channel and appreciate your simple design choices and high signal-to-noise ratio videos. (Particularly since you've ditched the background music (couldn't resist) :-) Q: Why not apply a single fabric strip over the arch and sides instead of three pieces to avoid the (visible) seam covers?
@AVCRIG
@AVCRIG 2 жыл бұрын
The fabric we use is really hard to stretch that much. It’ll do some things, but I’ve never gotten it to bend that much.
@DougLooney
@DougLooney Жыл бұрын
Got this done! I would recommend adding a step to mask out the section under latch covers (with 1/2 inch margin) and other plastic fittings prior to foam - then removing that foam before applying the fabric. I am unable to get my latch covers or light control panel to snap back into place. I did successfully use this technique to keep the rear lights (then partially hid them under decor).

That’s a great suggestion. I’ll give it a shot on our new van!

Would you still be able to install bug nets like the bug wall? That also gets installed under the weather stripping. Would the foam, fabric and bug wall material be to thick for the weather stripping to fit back on?

I don’t see why not. If you’re using a heavy fabric like we do you’d probably not notice a difference. With a thin fabric you may notice a wrinkle or two

Hey Matt, great content! (Subscribed) You don't mention and I can't tell.....but did you spray 3M 74 on the foam side? Or ? Thanks from an appreciative Sprinter owner!
@AVCRIG
@AVCRIG Жыл бұрын
We do yes. 90/94 would also work for this application. Landau is closed cell and doesn’t melt with 94. The 74 we use just tacks up faster so we can work faster.

Does the 3m 74 hold up ok in high heat? I used 3m super 77 for something similar and had a lot of issues.

74 does MUCH better. 77 is not really meant for this kind of application. It’s more for mounting photos and craft projects.

Great Video! I've seen people not use foam and just adhere the fabric directly to the pillar. Is there a reason you used foam? Also what is the difference between the 3m 90 and 74?
@AVCRIG
@AVCRIG Жыл бұрын
We like the way the foam softens the wrapped sections of the van. It does add a warmer feel but no appreciable insulation. It’s definitely not necessary, but we think it is worth it. 90 is a general purpose adhesive. It will work just fine for this. It will melt the “blobs” so maybe look for one can of 74 for that. We like 74 for the wall’s because of a few things. Foam and Fabric specific, fast tacking, and orange color (optional on 90 in red). The color is nice (especially in a white van) to see where you have sprayed.

@AVCRIG
@AVCRIG Жыл бұрын
You just pull them out. It’s very simple. In the Sprinter there’s adjustment, but the Transit is stationary. The only thing to solidify would be the torque specification.
