No commentary playthrough of Wrath: Aeon of Ruin. Played on Hard skill level, showing all secrets.
Wrath is a boomer shooter running on the Quake 1 engine, the DarkPlaces port to be more precise, and developed by veterans of the Quake community. You'll visit 3 distinct worlds, with 5 sprawling levels each, chock full of secrets and eldritch enemies. Your main tool is your wrist blade, which you can use to lunge forward at high speed both for attacking and dealing massive damage, or performing long jumps. The gameplay itself is very standard, it's what you should expect of a Quake engined game, but it is spiced up with your standard weapons having an alt fire which in some cases, it not what you would expect, and also the 10 artifacts which work as portable powerups.
Was the 5 year wait worth it? I mean... no, there's no reason why it should have taken so long. But don't get me wrong, the game is fine, I liked it, had fun with it, and finding all secrets never felt like a chore like in other games. However, there were a few levels which felt to me more like 'Quake' levels instead of 'Wrath' ones. Not that they were bad or anything like that, level design is great, but I didn't expect full dungeon levels in Wrath.
This is played on a prerelease version dated from 20 days prior to launch, and it was an extremely polished experience, aside from a couple broken secrets which I guess will be fixed by the time you read this.

Wrath es un boomer shooter que corre con el motor de Quake 1, el port DarkPlaces para ser más preciso, y desarrollado por veteranos de la comunidad de Quake. Visitarás 3 mundos distintos, con 5 enormes niveles cada uno, petados de secretos y engendros. Tu herramienta principal es tu hoja de muñeca, que puedes usar para lanzarte hacia adelante a altas velocidades para atacar y hacer mucho daño, o para hacer saltos largos. El gameplay es muy estándar, lo que podría esperar de algo corriendo en el motor de Quake, pero aderezado con el ataque alternativo de tus armas que en ocasiones no es lo que esperas, también tienes 10 artefactos que funcionan como powerups portables.
¿Merecio la pena esperar 5 años? Es decir... no, no hay razón por la que haya tenido que llevar tanto. Pero no me entendais mal, el juego está bien, me ha gustado, me he divertido con él y encontrar los secretos en ningún momento se sintio tedioso a diferencia de otros juegos. Eso sí, hubo algunos niveles que se sintieron más 'Quake' que 'Wrath' para mi. No quiero decir que fueran malos ni mucho menos, el diseño de niveles es genial, pero no esperaba niveles de puro mazmorreo en Wrath.
Esto está jugado en una versión datada a 20 días del lanzamiento oficial, pero ha sido una experiencia muy pulida, excepto por un par de secretos que estaban rotos e imagino que ya estarán arreglados para cuando leais esto.

Shooters should not have jumping. They shouldn't even have a jump key.

@@Cretaker what's there to elaborate? I hate the whole platforming. It's annoying as hell. The focus should be on combat, not jumping and maneuvering chasms etc. I just hate that.
