As a player in the U.S. who has invested time as well as money, and for those who disagree with me, we can agree to disagree. Moonton, knew this was coming, it's all about the money for them. They had time to advise the app might go dark due to the law changes affecting Bytedance and their subsidiary companies. They chose to keep it quiet. That’s fine if they want to take that stance, but now they risk losing scores of U.S. customers. As of now, my position is they've lost my support in a game I really liked.

Moonton definitely had no control over the situation. They are a company of a company of maybe another company? there is no chance that they had a seat at the adult table. they also likely could not say anything due to legal constraints, either appropriately or inappropriately enforced by the parent company. it's the grand Papa company that's at blame for refusing to sell off their investiture as required by US law. 100% agree with the recommendation not to spend for now.

I'd be shocked if they had any binding legal concerns around disclosure on potential loss of service for a region, especially since the law was already in the public domain. I'm also not a lawyer, so I can't say that is 100% for certain lol. But there is absolutely no doubt they had prior knowledge it was going to happen. Even if they're just an owned company of another company, they still have meetings discussing profits and potential impacts on them...which would absolutely include the loss of service to one of the largest spender nations on a mobile title. Maybe you're right and they legally couldn't say anything, but im more of a proponent of occams razor here in that the simplest answer is likely they didnt want to impact revenue by disclosing this so they just didn't say anything. We'll never know which one of us is right, but it's definitely better to stay on the safe side and not spend for the next few months :)

Ill still play it for now, but i feel like it's definitely wise to start branching out a little. Who knows maybe they'll come to a deal and it won't end up being anything, but i just don't believe that for some reason lol

I totally get that even if everything resolves well for Moonton and WoR, there is already some milk spilled because of the company behavior and it makes you less motivated to support such company. We will see what happens... Anyway gacha games and gacha game companies are known to be like that kinda... If you quit, I will probably too, I started playing the game because you posted it on KZbin first time and of course I liked it but without you and Wrathicans it will loose a lot of magic. When it comes to new series, I'm very excited about Dark Souls series again! Cannot wait for 2 and 3, especially as I have not played or watched it somewhere (I like waching them, too hard games for me xd), Elden Ring will also be nice although this one I know already from another KZbin series... Basically whatever you do I will be happy, I watch videos because of your character and way of being!

Yup. You’re spot on. The best that could happen is if somehow moonton can get sold or get someone else to buy them out. What also sucks is at least marvel snap is actually communicating about what’s going on and their plan of action, but moonton isn’t and hasn’t said anything, so I expect that nothing will be done and this game is over for us Americans.

I wasn't aware marvel was being open about the current issues, but that's a great sign. It's always nice to see companies being transparent on issues that affect their consumers instead of treating them like cash cows that they need to milk as fast as possible lol Maybe moonton will take a page from their book and open up a bit so players aren't just left in the dark.

It's not about moonton wanting to lose their consumers, no company does. it's the fact they knew it was coming and said nothing so those players would still spend $$$. Its not moontons fault that theyre losing american players, Its the parent company that chose that for them. You could blame the law the US passed for that, which is aimed primarily at tiktok...but just as easily you could blame the Chinese government if you wanted because it's their laws that force companies in their jurisdiction to comply with information requests, which is the issue being covered by the US law.

I think the likelihood of them moving and resolving the legal issue is entirely around what Bytedance does. If they do it for TikTok, they'll likely do it for all their properties, at least any that make some noise. If they don't and TikTok actually dies, then I think WoR is dead on the table, too.

I'm not really playing any other mobile titles right now, except the tower...but it's not something I'd make content on. I'm debating between some monster hunter world streams in preparation for wilds release in February or some dark souls/elden ring since I still need to beat them. I've even debated loading up IH again as a fresh account just to see what it's like in 2025...last time I logged in I was totally lost haha

I feel like the most angry people about the law just like tiktok...since I don't it doesn't bug me at all. I can't imagine these same people being happy if their government decided to ban Facebook, Instagram and all their other social media apps lol

Agreed. I still think the games fun, and I don't mind grinding for upgrades but I'm not sure how all this will affect the games longevity either. It's not good publicity for sure and since it's removed from US app stores it may very well lead to a decline in new players, which is never good for a mobile game since they rely on new players replacing older whales that move on to new games.

Sugar coating things isn't my specialty. If you want someone to tell you how great moonton is for hiding this information from their players and how good it is for the health of the game then I can't help you there. Spenders arent the only ones who can complain about this...I'd have to wholeheartedly disagree on that. Anyone who has put any time into the game and is an American that will lose access to the game is still getting screwed over. Remember, when the American whales lose access to the game, and their arent any new players from America coming in then the whole game is going to suffer, not just Americans. So yes even f2p players that arent in America have a case to be heard. Try to spin it positively if you want, I just dont see any way to do that without being a liar

I’d say it matters to everyone. If the American player disappears, I’d argue the game won’t survive. Moonton needs the income from the US players.

Youre right, it will probably effect all players eventually. It's more than just an upfront revenue hit, you're also losing access to any new players from one of the heaviest spending nations on earth. Even if their revenue hit isn't crippling on day , over time you're old whales that move to new games won't be getting replaced like they usually do, at least not at the same rate.

I wasn't a fan of MH Now either...but im also lazy and don't walk around haha the beta was alot of fun but it was an absolute beast to run on pc. Even on my 3080 I was dipping under 60fps alot. Hopefully it will be more optimized at full release, or we'll get some mods to boost performance. Curious how consoles handled it

Im not sure of youre being serious or not. Ill treat it like you are. You can absolutely request refunds from the app store/Google play for in app purchases. As for all the limitations on how long ago/for what reasons you can request them I'm not going to pretend I know all of that because I dont. How that works when a game is completely removed from your app store I'm not sure, but it's probably going to be important for alot of people very soon

I've received refunds before, alot of it has to come down to the reason why it's requested. There is unfortunately alot of fraud in that department so they're a bit strict on it. Hopefully an issue this wide spread would be accepted as a legitimate refund. Only time will tell

I have seen other people posting that the VPN is just a bandaid because when they update again, you will no longer be able to play because you won't be able to update because the game isn't in the shop anymore. Don't know if that's true, but that's what people, who think that they know what they're talking about, are saying.

VPNs allow you to fake your location, so id assume that using one would allow you to access Google play/apple from a country that does have the updates and you could play normally. Lots of people already use vpns to watch anime early by using Japanese locations.
