Amazing Carlos Sainz, the best rally driver ever. A true legend. El Matador.

Loeb / McRae / Sainz - what a driver line-up Citroen had back then!

A pity that Colin has had disastrous results that year with the best vehicle.

@@rallyivan1234 He could never quite change his style to suit the active differential cars, which didn't require as much sideways driving as he preferred.

@@hristoitchov He should've been able to adapt to them if he was as good as everybody claimed. He was very fast but rallying is not only about being fast, that's why Sainz, a considerable slower driver was able to outmatch him most of the years they shared teams. They shared teams in 94, 95 and then from 2000 to 2003. Sainz only lost 95 and 2001 to Colin. And let's not forget Carlos was 6 years older than Colin. In their Ford/Citroen years, Colin was still in his prime while Sainz was way past it. Colin was very talented but sometimes he couldn't live up to his own hype.

@@derekringer7143 He was actually adapting, but it was more down to lack of motivation and enjoyment, than talent or skill. Compare it to his come back in Skoda in 2005, when he was remarkable. Citroen was not a good a environment to Colin. As for being outmatched, you can't just look at the final results and judge based on that. Colin basically lost 2 titles (97 and 98) because of mechanical issues, when he was at his best.

@@hristoitchov I agree with you on 97 but not in 98. In that year he threw away a lot of points in Finland and Argentina with unforced errors. Sainz and Makinen, especially Makinen, had more mechanial issues/unlucky punctures/etc than him. He was unlucky in Australia and England but his championships hopes were already very little before that because of his lack of consistency. I'm not only talking about final results, it's a fact that Sainz was better than McRae over a full year span. And again, as I said, this was proven when Carlos wasn't at his best (his speed at 40 yo for sure wasn't the same as when he was champion in his late 20s). Don't get me wrong, McRae was great but simply put there were others that were greater.
