WRC 2024: Rallye Monte-Carlo - Best of Rally1 Cars: Top Speed Fly Bys, Fast Sections & Max Attack!

With the previous WRC Plus cars I've learned that WRC rounds were to be watched and recorded on fast and high speed sections, where those aerodynamic monsters gave their best. Now with the new, more powerful Rally1 I wanted to adopt the same strategy and it wasn't a bad choice at all, even though I noticed firsthand how much more difficult it is to drive these cars on the limit in comparison, due to the different weights involved, less aero and the lack of the active central differential.
Group Rally1 cars have two radical new features for the World Rally Championship: the first is the introduction of a hybrid electric power system, linked to the existing 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in use on the previous WRC Plus cars.
The second is related to their origin. In fact Rally1 machines have no series production car requirement. They still have to be identifiable as being based on a series production model but tubular space frame structures are permitted allowing for scaling of production models.
Rally1 cars have also a less complex suspension setup with reduced travel, a reduction from 6 to 5 speed gearboxes, in common with Rally2 cars including the removal of 'flappy-paddle' gear shifters and the removal of some aerodynamic components.

That’s why I don’t like the official WRC broadcast, it’s just pure on board and nothing of outside angles, I remember when the broadcast was pure outside shots and eventually some on board

The angle of filming does play a big part in showing the true speed. I can also see that rally cars have once again become too fast, just like Group B. I would not be surprised if this sport would be killed too.

@@JariVasarainen Were'nt they even faster before the rally1 regulations? I think the speed is quite ok now, they just need a formula that attracts more manufacturers IMO.

Grazie Yuri! Sì, anche se il radar l'avevo già in casa da anni non l'avevo ancora portato ad un evento di rally o/e cronoscalata per il fatto che ci vorrebbe una persona che lo tenga e segua le auto. Ho dovuto ingegnarmi per poterlo applicare al treppiede e fare in modo che puntasse nella direzione giusta ma non sempre riesce a rilevare la velocità dell'auto in arrivo.. è stato un primo esperimento, sicuramente da riprovare in futuro 😉

I'm guessing somebody knows but what's the deal with the crazy decel and rev limiter sound on the new Toyotas and Fords? Is it just some new advancement in anti-lag technology or something else? Obviously it sounds incredible and I love it, just curious since not everything in the series shares the same sound, some still have the more traditional anti-lag sound.

Turbo anti-lag was revised for Rally1 class so it's no longer the more responsive fresh air system
