Notes like these are handy for when you can tell that, at present during recce, a corner LOOKS like you can hook your inside tire into, but there's always a chance that the cars ahead of you can dislodge something that, where you once thought it was clean, now has a large stone, or a drop that could end up bending the radiator - and in a hot rough climate like this, that means likely retirement. All from one corner you thought you could cut.

@@poplaurentiu4148 Imagine being the driver, who needs to process the pacenotes and the road's grip and roughness, which will determine the car's current physical state which has to be understood and handled throughout every one of those 25 minutes; predicting how the car will behave meters ahead to avoid doing things that can lead to unfixable mistakes; following the fastest line that offers more grip and allows to corner without having to reduce much speed, left-foot-braking to destabilize the rear axle to set the car for the exit of the corner, braking using the maximum braking power of the car but never locking the wheels nor ruining the traction in the slightest, etc. This ain't daily driving. This ain't about going fast. This is pushing to the absolute limits, as with most of motorsport. And taking the most out of the car on rally driving requires incomparable levels of concentration, as slight mistakes cost precious tenths of a second, and world-class drivers like those fight for tenths of a second per corner.

I swear rally co-drivers are a different breed. I can barely read a book in car on the driveway without feeling uneasy. These guys out there reading through a lengthy list of detailed notes and speaking them out loud in a comprehensible manner while going at high speeds on a narrow, bumpy, dirt road like it's an everyday job is fucking wild.

Wow... even as a lontime rally fan, I'm absolutely amazed. This is why they're some of the best drivers and co-drivers in the world. Keeping focus for 25 minutes and 35 km, not getting distracted by the helicopter, the fans, the photographers or your own mistakes, being able to read the notes and focus on hearing them despite them coming so quickly, while driving at your absolute best, feeling the grip and the forces, taking care of not only the steering wheel and pedals, but also the gear stick and the hybrid deployment, just wow. Plus the strong heat. I would have crashed so many times there :D And then, if you think back to the old days, where people had to do a bunch of long stages like this in the likes of Group B, with manual transmissions and stuff. Must have been even harder. It must be absolutely physically and mentally draining to do a stage like this one. Huge respect for the crews. I'm a big fan of Elfyn and Scott, hope they can get some wins soon. It's also amazing what the car can do, the suspension taking all the hard hits like nothing. Would be super cool if we could get a stage like this one in some really good rally game. I'd love it if I had to really drive by the notes. Maybe the upcoming WRC game from Codemasters? :)

Rallysimfans' RBR has about 400 different stages, including very long ones, and the RBR community developed a program to do your own recce (create your own pacenotes) for any stage. And then, it has the most realistic physics (NGP) that exist, far superior than WRC's and Dirt Rally's physics - according to real WRC drivers.

It’s not just the driving, which is spectacular, but the fact he is processing the pace notes two corners ahead. These drivers brains operate on a completely different level to the average human being. And the codriver has to stay composed and focused, whatever is going on outside the car and whatever mistakes are made by the driver. The tone of his voice is like he’s just directing a mate to the shops. These guys are really something else.

The long and extremely difficult stages keeps the driver and the co-driver very focused. It becomes as if their brains are connected to the road and synchronizing with it, avoiding the endless hidden rocks, ditches and small trees almost on every corner. That stage is brutal and unmerciful, only the professional drivers, co-drivers, teams and amazingly built machines can go through it, well done.
