This 2004 Arctic Cat 650 4 Wheeler was only $1,000 but it lived a rough life. Josh bought this bike a few weeks ago and it started right up. Once the new frame came in and everything was swapped into it the starter clicked a few times and everything went dead. Josh called me into to find the electrical problem while he finished bolting everything else back together. After about 45 minutes of tracing the entire ignition system out I found the problem and it was way simpler than either of us expected. If you want to watch the entire frame swap and what Josh is going to use it for the video will be on his channel soon. ‪@TheFracturedRooster‬

I got a 2005 650V2 arctic cat at salvage and completely rebuilt it. The engine really rips, the fastest utility quad back in it's day. The V twin sounds good too. Use L range when working, towing, hauling for better belt life. The belt sensor (limp mode)and electric actuator for engine braking are more hassle than they are worth on a old machine. You can shift into 4x4 while rolling, must be stopped for H, L and R shifts plus when applying diff lock. The rear brake is a separate brake cylinder, caliper etc. most don't work well. Bedliner the racks to spruce it up.

Definitely a pre-WWII bike. The rear facing dropouts are a dead giveaway. It's difficult to date the older ones because all of the records were lost in a factory fire.
@tiredoldmechanic1791
@tiredoldmechanic1791 2 жыл бұрын
@@fomocopowersgarage7103 Schwinn only made the Flying Star from 1955. According to a bicycle site, that serial number was used twice. Once in 1952 and again in 1957. The 1957 date would correspond with the build time of the Flying Star so it is likely a Schwinn. The frame shape matches that shown for other girls and ladies bikes of that year.The paint on the fenders is also classic Schwinn. Bikes that didn't have chrome or stainless steel fenders had painted fenders with a pin stripe on each side and a chevron at the end like that bike does.

@@tiredoldmechanic1791 but.... that's not a 1950s bike....I absolutely guarantee it isn't. That entire frame style was phased out after WWII. Yes,it's quite obvious it's a girl's bike. Schwinn sold thousands of bikes to smaller independent brands, that's where the Flying Star headbadge comes into play. I trust my own knowledge more than "according to a bicycle site"....I just sold a 1940 Schwinn for $11k....i think i might know a thing or 2

That thing wired to side looks like a home made bypass for the belt stretch sensor. You need to do a jump on two terminals to get it reset and out of limp mode. But whatever they hooked up I guess worked for them. Reset sequence should be online but my son already knew it so he did mine.

Curious why you basically always use the multimeter instead of pulling out a test light. I had heard that a test light is more data than just volts because it actually pulls some amperage, and so you'll check something that looks ok with volt meter and it might look ok but test light would be weak.

It's always the stupidest easiest part on problems like that. I've spent days trying to troubleshoot things just to find out something was unplugged or had gotten eliminated in a upgrade and the system was looking for the missing part before it would work. Happened with my computer and I was up till 2am before I realized the next morning that I had moved a critical part to the back of the box and it was too far away for the wireless keyboard it was looking for to get picked up. Moved the usb dongle back to the front port and everything worked again. It's always the last thing you touched, moved, changed. 🤬

That bike is likely from the 50's judging by the skip tooth sprockets. Not likely a schwinn, they didn't start producing more than one step through frame until the late 60's, and the one they did make had a ton of extra decorative metal. The stamp on the bottom bracket is just the serial number, super not helpful for identifying anything that old. It might be an old fuji or nishiki. If you want to get into some seriously deep rabbit hole digging the japanese welded a different direction than the americans, but I can't remember who did what.

Looks like a Schwinn Hollywood. Possibly missing a bunch of parts. The frame looks like 1938-40, but the serial numbers don't match. Best guess is 1939 due to inconsistencies in serial numbers. If you pull the crank out, the year will be stamped on it.

Serial number stamped on: 05/22 to 05/29 of 1952 or... Serial number stamped on: 04/22 of 1957. My guess is the 1952 because of the chain.
