I lost my (beloved) first boat in almost the exact same manner. It was also a ob skiff. I didn't have it loaded with gear tho but I did lose the engine and other hard to replace equipment. The hull was destroyed down to the waterline. On the beach but it was gone. It's kinda like losing your boyhood dog. It takes a part of your life away. But you have your videos and Fran which are what make the memories worth remembering.

I have a near shore anchored and docked many times. Both have been equally scary when the wind comes from the wrong direction. It is also nice to have the boat on the trailer when the wind comes up.

Had a very similar situation at dirk hartog. Snapped anchor lines and the boat flipped in the shore break. We managed to get the boat upright and thanks to the help of a trawler were able to tow it back to Denham. Whilst we lost ~$30k worth of spearing gear the boat being an aluminum hard top was relatively unscathed considering. Shes back on the water and we still do trips with her. We now use a bridal set up of 30 mm rope for anchoring overnight and will not anchor overnight in places where there is an onshore wind. It was pretty scary/stressful when it happened but now its just another story.

Fran and Strick - what an incredible video! From huge Tigers leisurely munching on denuded whale carcass, to seeing the S.D. pounded in the surf, and the subsequent salvage effort, which paid off pretty well - not often the sea gives back what it takes away - and the dugong - amazing! When I first saw it, I was like, WTH is THAT? Being in the S.E. USA, I've seen manatees before - but the dugong was a wonderful surprise - they're a beautiful animal - so streamlined looking, and with the fluked tail - watching it play with Fran was a pure delight. Sorry about about all the lost gear, Mate - but the next chapter in B2B Castaways is going to be even better. From where I sit, seeing how you two get on together - it's a joy to see a couple so blessed in lives so rich in experiences. Was also really stoked to see you together with Riley, Elayna, and their boys in the Phillipines. Keep on rollin'!

A parted off anchor line will get ya....if there was a wind change forecasted* I would set a storm anchor "50ft ground chain" with it oriented for the new direction...it's really a 20\20 hindsight thing now but....good for thought....glad ur all safe...god bless ❤️🇺🇲

To @spmbuiltin, I’ll try to explain, in Adventure 3 they were out on the salty dingo, by the end of the adventure it was in pretty bad shape. (And yes they did get a new boat during this time or thereabouts) Now, for adventure 5, this current series, at the beginning it shows them clearly taking the Salty Dingo out of the shipyard and making repairs to start this new series in an effort to relive a fond memory, if u will

Aside from wreck you still managed to put together a great post for us to watch... Hope you had insurance to cover most of the stuff lost.... Even the ships on the great lakes here in the states lose anchors and that's chain all the way up and down Those nylon ropes like fish line need to be replaced annually....
