This is what I remember derbys like as a kid. Frames weren't pie cut. Quater panels weren't kinked downward behind the greenhouse like are all now. By the 2nd hit the rear bends upward. There's no grills in them. The old derbys you could tell what the car was.

In the early 80's I used to go to a small town's annual fair with a demo derby. I remember a early 70's Toronado that had been hit in the back so much and bent so bad that the A pillars were straight up and down. I remember the 70's Chevy's hit in the rear would bend down until the bumpers dug into the ground, whereas Fords would bend upward. And the 70's Chryslers would conk out early. Lots of fun!

Hi Mr. Goodpliers Just wanted to inform you about a video which I'm sure you would enjoy watching. Jay from 'What it's like' has just made a video at Bob's barn. The barn and yard is full of car parts and some complete cars from the 1950s to '80s. Bob is hoping to sell these cars and parts for a reasonable price or else they get sold for scrap. Although Jay has made many videos about restored cars, this could be his only video that's most like your own. Have you seen any of the 'What it's like' videos before?

True auto guys know exactly what they are doing these aren't specialties cars or rare production models that would fetch good money even after restoration most parties that compete are from auto repair shops salvage yards and tire shops or involved in the automotive industry and know the value of a car

You can't know what's going to turn into a collector car 30+ years in the future. The Grand Prix and the Impala are collectors today, they'd do quite well if they were in showroom condition.
@mrt601

@0utc4st1985 production numbers has a lot to do with estimating future market value and if its a every day grocery getter and kinda beat up you will never get out what you have invested on restoring it know a little bit about collection cars 🚗

@@mrt601 The 1988 2 door Olds Delta 88 is one of the rarest cars out there. Very few were ever made and naturally fewer made it to present day. Yet, they don't sell for more than a couple thousand. Far more 60s and 70s Mustangs were made, but those are worth a lot in showroom condition.

ABC Wide World of Sports Sadly these continue, and still chew through collectible cars even now. In some cases, pristine driver cars. It's almost like a form of mental illness... no, it IS a form of it.

#75 is a yellow 70-71 Ford Torino wagon. My mother drove one when I was a child. It was pea green. I recognize several but the quality is understandably bad. Love reminiscing from when I’d watch them as a child in 70’s & 80’s thanks

I bought some 65 Olds chrome parts from a guy and I noticed he was tinkering with a 65 Cadillac in really nice shape. He told me it's going to a demolition derby. This was 5 years ago and I asked him why destroy a perfectly good classic. He gave me a stupid response. I shook my head in disgust. Somebody would love to have that old beautiful sled. Oh well.

Our roads and freeways look like this everyday. Lol. Since there appears to be no rules or laws anymore, a certain percentage of people drive as recklessly as they want. As far as, the derby footage, it's always nice to see old films, but man, it can be heartbreaking too.

Funny how rules have changed since. Back then, idiot flag men running around ON the track while cars are active & crashing. Also surprised that they allowed someone to drive a convertible. Safety & intelligent-wise they weren’t the sharpest tools in the shed.
