Wrestling with Disaster ~ A Legit Documentary

So, this was years ago, I was working ring crew for a Louisiana promotion that I'll not name. The perks were a free show, meeting the wrestlers, and getting to mess around in the ring a bit before the show as well as $30 a show. Sweet gig for me. Anyway, the promoter got New Jack to make an appearance and he had a run in. The hotel we booked for him sold his room because it was Mardi Gras and the desk guy had family coming in and he screwed us. When Jack came, I decided to ask him to stay at my gf's house with us and he accepted. Plans changed again and he stayed at my parent's house 2 hours from the venue. So, I explained my family and that my Dad is a Christian and Jack was cool. The show ended at 10, we got home at 12:30 because we ate Waffle House, which was nasty. Jack was set to go home that Tuesday, so he was there from 12:30 a.m. Sunday to Tuesday evening. He introduced himawlf as Jerome, he didn't curse in front of my Dad or Mom, he was actually polite and respectful, and we sat up talking wrestling for hours. I was a sponge. Dad cooked a seafood gumbo, now mind you, my Dad is a bayou grown Cajun, and we take pride in our food. All dad said was not to ask what's in it. Just eat it. Jack ate some and loved it. Dad warmed up some leftover duck and Jack loved it. Anyway, when New Jack left, he had two containera of gumbo, two freshly cooked ducks, pork roast, deer roast (both killed by my family,) hot dog and sausage spaghetti, and two store bought king cakes. Don't ask me how he got all of that on the plane, but he called and said that he did. Rest in peace, New Jack. Thanks for the memories.

Sad to say, more that half the cast from Portland are currently addicted to fentanyl and or methamphetamine. Including criminal theft charges and overdoses where narcan had to be administered, they are still stuck in the grips of addiction. We can only hope that they decide to seek sobriety and a long road to recovery.

Many would say that this would be degrading and even to poke fun at me. Fact is if you watch the documentary it pokes fun at more than one of us. As i said in a radio interview. If you can not laugh and learn from your mistakes you have no character. This is a tell tail story of the inner workings of getting caught in a whirlwind called professional wrestling if your not prepared and how not to run a promotion. Little did the Documentary crew know what a whirlwind they would get caught in as the cameras were rolling. I have learned a lot from this mistake and look where I am at today!!! Acting on stage. Hosting a successful web talk show. Even co promoted shows with APW All Pro Wrestling Roster. Promoted shows with the likeness of The Franchise Shane Douglas as well as from some of Nor Cal Wrestlers finest. Not only myself but others from the video also have had success in the years since. Buddy Highway! His professional wrestling career in Oregon. Matthew Merz working in multi-media and film. Success has came out of this documentary with over 7000 views on youtube. May this documentary serve as both entertaining and informative. My silents has been broken!

Our own Matt Legit still talks to Shannon regularly on Facebook. The kid has gone on to become a stock car announcer full time!! Shannon just moved to Texas this past month to start his new life outside of wrestling. He was making a local show for a long time called The Checkered Flag Show, which I believe he'll continue to create in the Lone Star state.

I was shocked guy is old enough to remember "Cut It Out" from Out of Control later used by same guy on Full House? I don't think I'll ever be able to eat again. That place was vastly better than I expected it would be considered a Mansion for California. That is like a paradise compared to how it is now. You must have got the Portland discount if spent 70 at Denny's? SAying Sir instead of Dude probably didn't help. I feel bad that left that dude but really admit I like the Skeleton Jacket wish had one. He should have thrown hands when he got back at guy who smacked him. That is best way to stop ribs. That bathroom was pristine could eat off the floors. I would have got the ring I think Cali is duty to retreat state. You just didn't want dream bad enough. I think that guy did the Leatherface Gimmick or was one of them right? Wish asked him about that heh. Cool that mentioned Sabu. Too Tough Tony or him talking are probably highlights. WAffles are pretty good even the ones I Make. Even diners would have nice Belgium Waffles with the Powder Sugar along with Hot Syrup. I'm going to make a WAffle after this. REal fun eating chocolate glad not into Balony. YOu guys know they sell plastic plates or things like that which could have used along with utencils. I believe him as its probably a crack area or drugs so they will use metal to cook their stuff then mainline it. Also bathrooms are pretty common for them to OD in or shoot up especially fast food places cheap stuff. SEemed like it wasn't so bad all things considered. I wonder what became of that drifter. Did he ever see himself in this or know it exists? Not seen camera work this shaky since AEW or Disney STar Wars REva Kenobi :).

+Prophetic Vision I'm not sure if there will ever be another wrestling documentary quite like this one. I'd have to write a screenplay to compete with this true story!! There are a few more documentaries up here that you may or may not find interesting: The feature length Wrestling is Love and the three short subject documentaries on Portland Wrestling (Lost History of PW, Lost Champions of PW, and Portland Wrestling goes Hollywood) are all available, but aren't exactly the humorous riot that Wrestling with Disaster turned out to be. In 2016, we're looking to put out at least three more documentaries and a comedic mini-series that just might be able to rival Wrestling with Disaster in outrageousness!! Stay tuned!
