Gary Hart loved Gino like a son, also. It broke his heart when Gino passed. A lot of the Promoters back them actually looked for and could see talent when they saw it. Gino had it. They had a personal investment in the kid, and genuinely cared for him. Nothing more nothing less.. imo

Cornette was made for this series. He has such a great love and respect for the history of wrestling, and it brings him such joy. If there is ever a series like this on television or even the WWE Network (wouldn’t want Kayfabe Commentaries to lose out though) he should definitely host it. He has great knowledge but also a great curiosity to learn about the territories he doesn’t have as much directly knowledge on. Awesome to see him happy.

@@TheStonecoldloner That would have never worked, Gino and Flair were too much alike and Gino would have never played 2nd much less 4th fiddle to Flair. The reason the 4 Horsemen is because each knew the part they played, there was a #1 guy through a #4 guy, Flair was 1 Arn as the Enforcer was 2, Tully was 3 and Ole/Windham was 4, In this this sernario Flair would have been 1, Chris would have been the Enforcer so he would be 2, That would leave Tully and Gino as 3 and 4, Tully would have been 3 more than likely so that leaves Gino as 4. Gino would have NEVER went for that.

This special was way before Dark Side of the Ring's episode on Gino. Honestly, I don't believe Gino's mom. She was underage when she was with Paul. It doesn't matter if it was years ago. That's still doesn't paint Paul in a good light to be married while having an underage girl on the side who is pregnant. If Gino was not his son, there was no reason for Paul to be that gracious with Gino when it came to payoffs. I think she lied to protect Paul.

5:24: And Gino and Paul had their falling out. In the full version, Bruce mentioned that Gino was mad because he didn't get main event money for a Houston show. OR. Paul used the same old payoff system as Sam did in St. Louis. 5 percent main, 3 percent special attraction, 1 percent everyone else. (You will only usually hear the main event and special attraction guys say Paul and Sam are great payoff men). With that in mind, consider this. What if Gino was not mad about not getting main event money but not even Special Attraction? If Paul tried to pay Gino one percent for a Houston show (where Gino was a huge draw) after he was established, I don't blame Gino for walking.

So much so that I think Gino's mother lied about him not being Gino's father. She may have been 16 when she had Gino, but that doesn't mean anything. You'd be surprised how many older men messed around with young girls back then. Paul Boesch was almost 45 when Gino was born. He was married and had no intention of leaving his wife.
@JackBarrett7
@JackBarrett7 2 жыл бұрын
Look at pics of Paul Boesch when he was young compared to pics of Gino, he HAD to have been his father. Look at their mouths, especially. Also, Gino's mother denied it, saying she was "only 16" when Gino was born and had not even met Boesch then..but Ginos 'real father' was a security guard for the arena where the shows were held.

Yeah, that's Gino's mom telling stories. I feel bad for her having her son die so young, but she comes off like a lifelong paranoid fantasist in that episode. In those Dark Side clips, the story starts out with Snuka's dad getting together with her mom, but then that crashes to a halt and suddenly it's actually her and Snuka getting together. I doubt either of those things happened. I get the feeling she was telling a crazy story to get attention and she mentally lost track of it and told an even crazier story.

I have no idea if she's telling the truth or not. But the fact that Gino was treated so well by Paul when he wrestled for him, that Paul was so devastated when Gino died, and that there was an uncanny resemblance between Gino and a young Paul makes one wonder. I don't know if non-disclosure agreements were a thing back in the 1950's or not, but I'm sure it would not have been the first time that an older wealthy married man might have paid off a young woman (or underage girl) and perhaps had her sign some sort of oath of silence that he may have kept locked away somewhere. And if such a document exists, it might be possible that heirs of the now deceased wealthy man could try to claw back that money (would probably be a very high number in today's dollars) and make that now older woman's life hell in the process if she ever violated the agreement. But then again, she could be telling the truth. It could be that the resemblance between Paul and Gino was coincidental, that Paul gave Gino such special treatment because he was a big draw, and that Paul was so devastated because he simply loved Gino LIKE a son.
