Like those tight goals with the short stantions running from the cross bar . The goal nets were tighter and on occasions when a goal was scored the ball would rebound out . Very continental for Wrexham. That was a decent Wrexham team too . Bobby shinton with the white boots and the immortal Dixie

if you are puzzled at 0:34 as to why the ref waves play on, only to then disallow the resulting goal anyway, i can only suggest this; most think the offside rule (in 1978) meant `stay behind the last defender' when the ball is played - but it actually (still) says "behind 2 opposing players" - and because nearly always one of them is the goalkeeper it creates confusion if they come out but miss the ball and it goes past them. and see how that happens here - and the wrexham player at 0:39 (mickey thomas?) then kicks the ball - and 3 wrexham players are behind only 1 arsenal defender - normally that is ok because the goalkeeper is usually there too - but not in this case. see also the wrexham player in the bottom left who looks at the ref and then stops running when the other wrexham players carry on - clearly he has heard the whistle before the ball has gone in.

i don't see how he can give offside once he's waved play on in the first place. the guy who gets away down the right doesn't play the ball forward so the guy in the middle can't be offside and then the guy that scores comes from behind the play so he can't be offside either.

@@womba68 i did say i only suggested that reason as i can't see what else it could be - the ref did not give the goal so must've seen something after waving play on - i don't know for certain what it was but was just making a suggestion - remember that the ref might have seen it different from his angle and got it wrong.

Just watched this on ITV4, staggered that Brian Moore never mentions it in the studio. At the time he thought it was for a foul when there clearly had been none. I don't see anything wrong with it, it can't be offside when it's cleared off the line and comes back to Thomas.

And Thomas is clearly behind the player who cuts it back to him.

@@harrison6143 yep just thinking the same clearly never offside. Brian Moore was infuriatingly pro referee at all times he didn’t even question the decision. Have to say although I thought he was great commentator he wasn’t really looking back. And his weird obsession with players stopping a goal with their hands he thinks it should never even be a yellow card !

I'm directly behind the goal in the kop, looking out at the pitch to the rhs of the net. A few weeks earlier against Liverpool I was 25 yards to the right.

Can you really see yourself in the crowd..?

Not clearly, but I'm that little lad with the red and white bobble hat behind the goal in the kop!
