this engine is from the twin rotor Piasecki H-21 Shawnee or Boeing/Vertol 44A flying banana. as normaly in a fixed wing plane a prop is mounted to the reduction gear shaft but for the helicopter the cooling fan is mounted to the shaft and cowling to the bearing studs. as the engine has the provision for the prop govener on the gear housing. the engine was also used on the Sikorsky s-58 H-34 choctaw helicopter.

@@jtuttle11 25 years working on radials in the RAF gave me a pretty good idea of loudness..oh, and radials were never muffled...QED

@@jtuttle11 I doubt he's been around a open manifold hotted up engine let alone a radial. Even a tooted up big block v8 will make you want ear plugs unless she firing for the first time.
