This stitch has been joy. Not the exuberant high key joy, the gentle pulling the edges of myself back together and cozying back into myself kind of joy. I’ve been tinkering on it all week. It’s Sunday morning now, a new prompt will be here tomorrow. And I’ll love that one too. I always do. But this one? It was so good to listen to your thoughts Kathry! Some of my thoughts when I was watching how the wrinkles were converted into a lovely design: 1) I like your quilt so much more than the green fabric, especially now that you told us its history; 2) Even though I like your quilt better, what I like the most is what you create; 3) In my view everything we do has a function and sometimes a purpose. We create or make something because it gives us pleasure, and most of the time gives pleasure to the beholder. Everything that I've seen you making, and creating, is art, plain and simple. Thank you Kathryn for sharing your work and your thoughts. Truly appreciated!❤

I don’t know about anybody else, but I would love to listen to you talk about the difference between patchwork & quilting, & how they met, because I honestly don’t have a clue about the real difference between them. I made a hexagon piece of sewing, from a pattern in The Australian Women’s Weekly, back in the very early 1970’s. I used cardboard for the templates, in accord with the pattern. I turned it into a quilt for my daughter’s dolls, in the mid 1990’s. It was made out of scraps. I did the English piecing slow stitching that you taught us, with the paper hexagons, leaving them in, & it almost seemed like a different kind of recipe, pattern or formula from the old sort that I’d done, but it was fascinating. I’m working on slow stitching a shawl for myself at present, from solar dyed cloth. Thank you for teaching us! 💐🦋

First video I watch from your kitchen. It is a lovely quilt (made me want to do something in the same color way). In the last year, and a lot because of you, I started to do things without purpose. I started with a rice bag and cloth hanger covering but with new techniques, trying to listen to the cloth, trusting the process and not being set on the results. In the summer I gathered plants, onion skin, coffee grind and rusty objects and try different dyes. I cut an old cotton sheet in 20 inch square and tried different techniques. I kept samples in a notebook of the different results and made a nice bundle tied with a nice bit of lace with the rest of the fabric. One day I would probably do something with it. For now I sometimes just look and open my little bundles and I’m amazed how well those fabrics turns out. It is my most ‘unpurposeful’ thing I have done so far. Although it gives me me a lot of joy, so in some way it has a purpose 😂❤.

I love this idea. It reminds me a bit of the 'taking a line for a walk' I used show students of Child Care for doing arts and crafts with children. It gets past the 'blank page' nervousness and gives lots of loops and shapes to fill in with patterns. You simply take a pencil or crayon and do a big loose scribble on a page to create lots of very random spaces. This crumple is lovely for stitching and I will give it a go as soon as I have finished the project I am on. Thank you.
