This reminded me of homecoming mum corsages. I don't know about other parts of the country in in the south they were big at one time. Girls would wear big mums decorated with ribbon etc.

I'm so glad I found this tutorial, I'm making wrist corsages for my girlfriend and I for prom, I made some wristlets out of beads that will look so nice with our dresses but I wasn't sure how to make the actual corsage until I came across this video, very informative.
