I recommend all of it for a base but then more than grammar, to learn the language, I recommend speaking it and reading in the language. That’ll make it stick.

It depends on your essay, audience, and purpose. I think using first person is very convincing for anecdotes but third person is best for combing an audience using research and such. It’s always more formal to use third person.
