I always make sure that before I begin writing my first draft I have a story that works from beginning to end in the form of a beat sheet. Due to the fact that the structure already works, any subsequent drafts are focused on polishing dialogue and scene description, not restructuring. That being said, I'm open to restructuring the story if an idea occurs to me that I didn't think of before.

On my free trial right now, would be nice to see a full review of the software/app from you. Currently using Fade In but I am longing for better planning tools, seems like Arc might hit the spot, great vid anyways

The full review won't come till July, but I have another one coming out as I'm working on a script right now and using Arc Studio to write it. I will say, I do like the planning tools of Arc Studio, but I'm also a long-time Fade In user, and I really like writing my script in Fade In. But... the planning tools of Arc Studio were pretty good for me. I might end up using both. :-)

Thanks Jake. One question- in your old school beat sheet early in the video you have the post it’s in 3 colours; yellow for sequences, orange for character beats and blue for-? Story beats?

Give examples do not talk about it, show it. This is off NO use whatsoever.

Hi, I'm loving the content on this channel and I'm getting a lot out of it. But I have one non-screenwriting question. The art over your monitors--What does the one on the far left say and where can I get it for myself? Thanks!

I'm glad you're loving the content... I hope it's helpful to you. The art on the left says "inspire", and this is art available in my online store for writers: writingdelights.com. You can look in the Office / Decor section. There are actually five different options: inspire, write, create, persevere, and imagine.

Save the Cat by Mitch Snyder covers beat sheets and lays out story structure, well done, Final Draft should have beat sheet function by now
