Many people know the incredible songs my mother wrote like Brand New Key and Lay Down Candles In The Rain.
But Melanie never stopped writing and singing and it only got better with time.
Mom would say something like “Beau I don’t have the range I used to have”
and I would say something like “mom the only difference is instead of being like the rarest violin you’re now a viola or bassoon from another galaxy playing in the upper register.
Mom you are the sound of legend no matter what “.
Here’s a recent live performance of one of her new timeless songs.. Write It Down , a live performance from The First Farewell Tour.
Mom and I were actually thinking of adding more parts to the album , either way she wanted to share this song with you now.
We had tuuuns of creations planned but I promise nothing will change.
Even though Melanie does not have her body anymore she is more alive than ever in the music.
It’s what keeps us going.
We feel the strength from everyone ,love you always.

I played Melanie all day today and still have her on as I type. My heart is heavy knowing she has passed, I really can't imagine what her children are going through. She truly was one of the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. "she sang till she died". Love you sweet Lady, your with me in thoughts daily.

OMG, Aunt Clara was my favorite character on Bewitched, I also adored Melanie and yes I to am old now (10yrs younger than Melanie) No other concert moved me like Melanie's. We were blessed to have her in our lives. @@AuntClara0911

Truly Heartbroken that our First Lady of Woodstock has left us - but happy she touched so many lives like mine. She was a true inspiration. She lived life on HER terms, and her authenticity was humbling and refreshing. Her own record labels from the beginning to the present. What a trail blazer! I was so inspired by her that back in November I ordered 1000 BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE buttons and passed them out at the holiday to people. I think that song is awesome. ALL OF MY LOVE TO HER BEAUTIFUL FAMILY. may you find some type of solace in our love ❤

I'm 57 years old and loved your mom's music since I was a kid. My cousin Melanie, was named after your mom, as my aunt is a big fan of your mom's music. My cousin Melanie is also in Heaven, so now they are together, and we will see them again. ♥♥♥♥

So sorry to hear of Melanie's passing. She was definitely one of my favourite and still a favourite singer of mine. She was one of us, I would love to have seen her in concert. I started listening to her in the late sixties and still listen to her. I have her music on my ITunes. Thanks for all the wonderful music, Melanie!

Your Mom was there for me growing up when my family, friends, teachers and everyone else were not. I saw her in 2017 and let her know what she has meant to me. ❤ from Stanley the Cat, and Ron....P.S...In the 1990s I wrote the fan club hoping to find a copy of "Precious Cargo". You sent me back a copy you yourself signed by your Mom's photo. Thank you, Jeordie. ❤

Love this song, who am I kidding I've loved all her songs. I keep wishing I'll wake in the morning and her passing will not be true. Your mum's music has sustained me since 1969, no one else has ever touched me this way. The music is her legacy, and it's firmly in my heart and soul.

I've known about Melanie my entire life (in my 50's now)...always liked her, but she was more in the periphery of what I listened to.....but about 4-5 years ago, I started getting more "into" her, honestly, thanks to KZbin....getting to see her performance at Woodstock (Birthday of the Sun just blew me away), and the live performance of Candles in the Rain done with Edwin Hawkins singers (I firmly believe that has to be one of the best live performances of that song, ever)....got me to buy a couple of CDs, and just reaffirmed my opinion that she had one of the most powerful voices of her era...She could stand toe to toe with any of her contemporaries ... her songs could be quirky and funny, as well as deep and emotional.... When I found out she not only had a KZbin channel, but actually commented on some of the "Reaction video" channels that would react to one of her songs (and how cool would it be, to react to a song like "Lay Down, Candles in the Rain", and actually have MELANIE, herself, comment on it! I was surprised and saddened to hear of her passing, as I was completely unaware that she was having health issues...her CD was actually in my player when I heard the news. She has a loyal following of fans, of which I count myself one of, that will never forget that powerful voice, and those wonderful songs.

I came to her music in my late teens, I instantly fell in love with her angelic voice, her earthly beauty, and her words that spoke to me like an old friend sharing their truth with me, opening my eyes to a wider universe of calm beauty. I'm so happy that I had several occasions to share with her what her music meant to me. How it was a light in my darkest times and a friend in my best times. She always seemed to have time to chat for a moment with a fan. Thank you sweet lady for the music I'll always cherish, rest well.

I had tried to reach-out to Melanie a few months ago as i was exploring the idea to produce a documentary on her amazing life. Since she left, and so suddenly, I have felt a big void in my life and often caught myself tearing-up listening to her songs ... I never knew Melanie (your mom) had such massive volumes of songs written and recorded! All I do know is her voice is distinctive and one of a kind. I was a teenager when I first heard her song Beautiful People. Later came Brand New Key, Look What They’ve Done To My Song Ma and when Lay Down was released I knew that she had become one of the greatest singer-songwriters ever. 🥰🎶 My sincerest condolences for your loss and may she fill the heavens with that magical voice of hers!! Thank You Beau, Jeordie, and Leilah for carrying on the message of Melanie and Peter (the Great). It is hard to describe just how much Melanie meant to me and so many like me, who were struggling through late adolescence and early adulthood, and were soothed by the vibes of not only her music, but by her Soul/Essence. I believe that she truly struggled on through all the nonsense in the music industry so she could give of herself to her fans. We listened at all hours, through headphones in the late evening, by the glowing tubes of the amplifiers. Who else hung her album insert pictures on their wall? A woman of true integrity, as well as an amazing writer and performer. Thank You, Melanie, for helping us get through, both back then, and now as we try to age as gracefully as you. And thank you so much for autographing your latest CD. RIP, Dear One.

I'm stunned! Somehow, I hadn't heard of Melanie's passing in the news nor on Reddit or anywhere until just now! I've covered "Look What They've Done To My Song" before, but now, I'm going to have to decide on another of her tunes to do so I can pay my respects to her the way I have been doing for the other music heroes who keep dying on me these past few years! (Damn! I was intending to eventually go see her at one of her gigs in Nashville once I had enough money saved up!) Melanie was my mom's favorite folk-rock singer when I was a kid and it rubbed off on me. I've adored everything she ever did! My heart is broken!

I was really sad to hear that Melanie had passed😥, but I know that she has touched not only my heart, but millions of people's hearts and ears through her music throughout the years. One of my first and favorite albums I ever bought, and still have will be a cherished memento to a wonderful and talented lady whom will be missed and remembered, but not forgotten. RIP Melanie 😘🥰
