Oh, that Supra looks fun! It would be cool to leave out section and compare the patina on the used portions of the pen over time. Curious to try that #6 nib.

Hey guys, I would just like to point out that I have a Wexford Steno Notebook and I’ve been writing a “Quote of the Day” in there for a few months and it has preformed surprisingly well for a cheap notebook from Walgreens. I haven’t noticed any feathering or bleedthrough even with my flex nibs or some of my wetter inks. Just thought this was worth a mention

If you use the Fireblue as an EDC, it the finish WILL TOTALLY WEAR OFF. I've seen it first hand. It doesn't fade to brass because it's not a brass pen - it's stainless steel. And I've seen 1 year old Fireblue Liliputs that just look like plain stainless steel because the finish wore off.

I bought a plain stainless steel Lilliput at a great sale price from somewhere, and I love it! The Fireblue is unique looking, but not worth the premium cost imo. If I'd bought one in Fireblue, I'd be upset if the finish wore off (even though I love my plain stainless steel Lilliput.)

I have a few Kaweco pens, mostly "sports," in plastic or aluminum. My favorite Kaweco is the Dia2 "retro-looking" full-size pen. I got a gold nib for it, although the steel nib wrote well.

Another great video! I’m very new to fountain pens. Did you say something about Kaweco changing the nibs that come on their pens “out of the box?” How can I tell whether the ones I’ve bought have the old or new ones?

I have a stainless steel Lilliput, which I'm not sure whether they still make it or not. I love it! Cool pen and so tiny it fits in the zip pocket of my Traveler-style notebook. I have small hands and can use it unposted, but it posts well and becomes about the size of a #2 pencil. I wish there was a converter for it, but I refill the short cartridges to use some of my bottled inks. I also have some Blue Velvet short cartridges for it. :) Its big brother you reviewed looks good too, as does the copper Lilliput, but I love my stainless steel Lilliput best!

How do you feel about the thin width of the Liliput? I am concerned that it could cause hand cramps after a serious writing session. I know that other pens are similar, and pencils, and I have gotten a grip type hand cramp…the Supra is one solution I suppose, with its additional girth.

An idea to preserve the finish on these awesome-looking pens: Renaissance Wax! Some people who restore vintage pens (such as myself, on occasion) will apply Renaissance Wax to plated metal parts to preserve the plating and to help prevent scratching. It also helps to make it more resistant to finger prints and leaves a soft glossy shine. In the case of these Kaweco pens, there's a chance it could also help to keep your hands from smelling like brass or copper after a long writing session if that bothers you. I'd be interested to hear how this treatment goes if anyone tries it, and I might try it myself if I ever own one of these pocket-sized beauties.

I just bought a Supra (not from Goulet) and was so excited to use it. Sadly, when you take the extra chunk of pen out, the smaller writing section grip is quite sharp because the thread hasn’t been smoothed off properly and it was loaded with a Diamine short cartridge which just leaked, the whole thing throughout the cap and stained the grip section - and I’d only tested writing with it once. 😢

I would be drooling over the Supra in copper. One can only hope! The liliput was originally only released in brass and the line was then expanded. So maybe Kaweco will do so with the Supra too 🤞🏽

Why is the finish that will most certainly wear off the liliput worth 100 bucks more than plain silver or black?
@tirinandkatten
@tirinandkatten 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure it's that much more expensive.. but I suppose it's because the finish requires extra work - and probably not every pen comes out an acceptable finish.
@hughmungus1572
@hughmungus1572 5 жыл бұрын
The silver and black are made of aluminum which is way cheaper than stainless steel. So it's not just the finish but also the martial itself that leads to the big price difference. You could argue however, that the fireblue is too expensive compared to the non torched stainless steel version and I would agree on that. But don't compare the aluminum pens to the ss ones

Many years ago, there was a company that made the Embassy pen. (Still does.) This company has contracts with various agencies to produce items that aren't found commercially. No, they don't make James Bond style spy gear. If anything, they just make pragmatic and handy items that simply can't be found elsewhere. And an agency can be anything from the FBI to the National Forestry Service. Anyway.... The very first model Embassy pens were black, all aluminum, and ballpoint. But you could remove the barrel of the pen, and then simply screw the front section into the cap itself to create a very short clip-carried pen. According to the company whom I won't mention since I don't want to be accused of giving them free advertising, the particular agency that wanted the pen; specifically wanted that stubby option incorporated into its design. No clue why since the tip of the ballpoint refill protrudes out from the pen in that configuration. This was about a decade ago. The company's 2nd and later generation Embassy pens did away with the stubby option feature. Only the original batch had it. They sell any surplus or overrun items on their site, once a contract has been fulfilled. Sometimes, such as with that pen, if the public shows a huge interest, the company will make later batches just to sell to the public. My 2nd Gen. Stainless Steel version can't be converted. Unlike my 1st Gen. variant. So there is one other pen in which the barrel section can be unscrewed and put aside. But again, ballpoint only and the tip isn't capped.

So, here's a weird question that no-one had before for Q&A: I have now been writing with nothing but fountain pens for basically all my life, so much so that I have gotten so used to the drag they create on the paper that I can't write with a ballpoint anymore, it just feels like rolling away under my hand. Though recently I have gotten a tablet to take notes directly on pdfs, as that would very helpful for my current work, but I cannot write on the screen, it's just too slippery. Any ideas on how to improve that?

Search for a screen protector with the term PaperLike. It has a slightly roughened surface that really transforms a stylus into more of a graphite pencil feel.

My copper liliput was shiny for exactly one week…then I let my toddler hold it in her hands and I guess she had spit on her hands and I also guess toddler spit speeds up the forming of patina 1000 fold… But the next day my shiny copper liliput was BLACK 😂😂 Still lovely though…

I love how they look, but copper and brass do smell, and that just kills all of the non-decorative products made out of them for me. If I have to handle something constantly, like a fountain pen, it better not stink up my hands.

Adrianne looks lovely as always, Drew looks Drewish as always and this was a nice video. As for the pens - I guess I am too old school but gimmickry for its own sake doesn't really appeal to me; I suppose next Kaweco will offer the Mister Peanut version, two inches long and holding a full .025 ML of ink in a proprietary cartridge. But to each his own, as they say. Cheers!
