Amazing explanation, thank you. What do you think about including the LinkedIn profile link in the top section of the CV with the other contact information?
@rajsidhu24 күн бұрын
Thanks @filippobighiani! Regarding whether or not to include a LinkedIn profile URL... only include it if it shows something that your CV cannot... e.g. your impressive network, how many skills you've been upvoted for / industry discussions you've been part of etc. Good question! Raj :-)

I was wondering whether you are able to check students’ CV from other universities? I have mine written out but I am not sure whether it is in its best version yet. I am still in the process of seeking for more experience that could be put on my CV. Also, thank you for all your help in these videos.

Amazing video Raj! Thanks. I am looking for quant jobs in the UK and I was told the CV should be no more than one page but your video says that's not true. I am a bit confused. Might it be that quant jobs (e.g. in inverstment banking) require one-page cv but not in other industries?
@rajsidhu Жыл бұрын
@chuckleee3 this is a really good question. Quant - and junior investment banking roles - are a 'special case' where there's a stronger sectoral expectation that a CV is going to be 1 page. I'd probably aim for a 1-pager in this case. This also counts for consultancy roles. Hope this helps! Raj

Is the CV format shown in the video the same as what is eventually handed to the recruiter, or should it be tailored to a paragraph format?
@rajsidhu11 ай бұрын
Hi @cicinie4750 thanks for asking. The CV format shown is exactly what I'd submit to the recruiter. Paragraphs don't tend to work super well on CVs (eye tracking research shows only the first few words tend to get read) so I'd definitely avoid paragraphs. I hope this helps :-) Raj

Love the advice, thank you Raj. Should we include a photo on a CV? I'm in my 50s...
@rajsidhu Жыл бұрын
Hi @janecameron2092 - great question! Featuring your photo depends on a couple of things: (i) where are you applying to for roles (having photos on CVs is considered normal and expected in central European countries, for example, and considered unusual in the UK [where I'd avoid putting a photo on], and (ii) would the role you're applying to feature your visual representation at all e.g acting or modelling (if it doesn't, again, I'd be disinclined to include a photo). Hope this helps! Raj

Well it's UK based charity working globally, especially Africa/UK so I'm thinking no photo. Thanks @@rajsidhu

Are these the same techniques used for CV's when you have 25+ years experience in the field you're going for, and for roles you have a lot to say about?
@rajsidhu6 ай бұрын
Great question. The principles are exactly the same @mazdar100. The temptation with 25+ years experience is to include everything, but this would be a mistake. Be very selective and focus your achievements in those 25 years through the specific skills/attributes you're being asked for. The interview is where the full richness of those 25 years comes out :-) Raj

@@rajsidhu Well, I tried. And there is just no way I can get my CV down to under a full three pages. Even when being selective. I'll give it another pass then likely need to admit defeat..
@rajsidhu5 ай бұрын
@@mazdar100 You've been working on it and so you will automatically have made optimisations to that crucial first page - which usually makes or breaks a CV. If there's nothing on the 2nd or 3rd page that the recruiter really NEEDS to see, you've still done a fine job if you leave it at 3 pages. There's no defeat here my friend. Good luck and please know I'm cheering you on. Raj :-)
