Writer Sophie Campbell Doesn't Understand Tmnt

My thoughts on Sophie Campbell(originally Ross Campbell) current run on Tmnt which isn't good in any calibur in my opinion. So I want to go in depth here as to why she doesn't understand Tmnt, and how she's using shock value to get people talking about the books.

Turtles with ninja trousers is something I personally think looks super cool. It's something I wanted done since I saw some fan-arts on deviant art. Too bad Campbell completely fucked it up in the process.

Look at what she done to my boys, Groundchuck and Dirtbag. In 87 cartoon, Groundchuck is a mutant bull cyborg and Dirtbag is a mutant mole in an underground miner outfit who works for the Shredder and Krang to not only destroy the turtles, but also replace Bebop & Rocksteady as well. Here in the IDW Comics, Sophie Campbell somehow made them Scary by making them a mutant buffalo and a mutant naked molerat created by Dr. Barlow, Like WTF! Compare versions of the two, You would know that the IDW version is absolutely Hideous, Like Man WHYD Sophie Campbell, WHYD!

To be frank, I kinda want Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastern to return to the main book because they've made the story fun and exciting again the Sophie showed me that she should only do the art. The status quo needs to return in some way.

Dont get me wrong I'm on the fence on the trans ideology too. And I know his name is Ross and he's trans, but I know him better as Sophie and he looks feminine which is why I refer him based off what I know.

I can't agree with BayVerse and Rise of Tmnt being bad. I understand why it can put people off but every version of TMNT is diverse, In my opinion first Bay movie is one of the best TMNT movies out of all(I wonder how many Ramboraph4lifes were triggered by that). Megan Fox as April was alright, it's great she was given a leading role despite story being about Turtles, Shredder was a great fighter, though I think writers shouldn't have chickened out and make Eric Sacks Shredder since he had a motive and was a creepy person, Turtles designs are actually good, fight scenes were well-choreographed and elevator scene is legendary. "Out of Shadows" on the other hand is everything fans tried to blame 2012 series for: uncreative, repeating, childish cashgrab trying to pay off using 1987 show references to please older fans. It had a good setup for Turtles doubting the need for helping people problem, but it was never intended to be resolved. Here the thing, while I'm not enjoying Sophie's writing direction and overusing Mutant Town, it's a good thing Tmnt stories were down to Earth. Remember the filler farmhouse episodes in 2003 and 2012 series: yes, there was action as well, but they were usually about Turtles and their friends everyday routine like cleaning the house or Casey trying to make breakfast for April or telling stories at the campfire. Agree or disagree, but these moments help Turtles feel more fleshed out as individuals, filler is not only a strategy to prolong the storyline for a couple of issues but also a way to believe and be invested in characters thoughts and feelings about past or foreseen events. As for the characters, I actually have nothing to say about them. Like, there are something to praise or criticise, but nothing is happening with them, I don't have any material to discuss about. But I want to address the Shredder thing. In my opinion, making Saki good and being forced to interact with Turtles after Splinter's death doesn't make sense too. However, I wouldn't consider Shredder completely irredeemable and unsympathetic. Sure, as a villian he did a lot of horrible things in the franchise to despise him for, yet there were times he was not that simple. In Mirage comics he killed Yoshi not because of jealousy, pride or ego but to simply avenge his killed brother Oroku Nagi. So did the Splinter by sending Turtles to end his life. Rise Shredder is probably the most pure version of Saki to date. He only became the way he is because of the dark armor corruption ending up in destroying his own clan. And in the end his soul was freed to be reunited with the rest of his family. 2012 Shredder is the most fleshed out in that area and the most misunderstood one. His clan was wiped out, he was spared only because he was a baby and didn't know the truth until finding out himself while not being married to Tang Shen and being looked down by arrogant young Yoshi. That was the final straw to destroy Hamato Clan which only caused accidental murder of Shen and serious burning of the entire head. Sure, the guy was lunatic from time to time about Karai and he was cruel towards his enemies and allies, but he had a piece of humanity until he was resurrected. It's just pictured that he is the most human version of character by far compared to previous iterations. And for Mona Lisa, I feel like Irma was put on her character, it's not bad and I ship her with Donnie, but the activist part is a bit off. I definitely agree 2012 Mona is the best version of character, Y'Githgba and her being an intelligent alien trooper have a lot of potential for development, besides, her design is the best out of all 3.

It's not that I don't just like Rise and the Bayverse it's the fact it ignores a lot of the substance the other series had. In the Bayverse they had the worst version of Shredder, the Turtles have no ties to Hamato Yoshi, Megan Fox looked and acted nothing like April...and the worst part is the movie is mostly about her than Tmnt. The movie in my opinion had one good fight and a funny scene with the Elevator but that's not enough to deem it good. The designs till this day is just bad making the Turtles too realistic looking and 7 feet tall, a lot of people were excited to see Donatello in a more cartoonish appearance from the one commercial not too long ago...which fits with their ecstatic. The 2nd movie was definitely better because there was more focus on the Turtles and despite the '87 fanservice, they were bringing something new by finally adapting Krang, Stockman, Bebop and Rocksteady. I know it has it's fans but Rise is better off as it's own thing for tokenizing April and Casey, making Splinter a complete watered down joke, and changing up the Turtles' roles and personality. Rise did make Shredder redeemable but for some reason creators have been doing that to a lot of villains by making them more sympatric, and I don't think Shredder should be one of them. The netflix movie was good but I still stand by the fact that these decisions were still bad from the start. And I understand that filler can flesh out characters alot which I'm not applaud to that, I'm applaud to the fact that Sophie Campbell has wasted 2-3 years telling garbage slice of life stories in a series called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and projecting herself onto Jennika. I can stand 4 to 5 filler of comics but not 30 issues of a nothing burger. The 2003 and 2012 cartoons did have filler episodes, but they had good stories on top of them like Cousin Sid or the Green Monster; 2012 might've had better ones like Speed demon or the Creep episodes. In Mirage the Turtles were more so antiheroes but the Shredder had turned to a life of crime as a kingpin and assassin. Splinter also calls him evil incarnated in volume 3 given how vile he was. And while Shredder isn't completely heartless he does enjoy hurting and antagonizing other people, even the people that's worked for him like Stockman. In 2003 series he and Hun tortured him for his failures, and the 2012 series he put a mutagen bomb on him to keep him in line. Shredder in most versions as a child starts out conflicted and revengeful, but Turtles into the Turtle's ultimate and family enemy for the things he's done to Splinter. I have no problem with current Shredder working with them but them easily trusting him and getting trained by him is off putting. But this is just my opinion and what I think fans believe overall, since we shouldn't just accept just anything open arms. I've given Rise and the 2014 movie the benefit of the doubt but it doesn't portray the characters we know and love well.

Of course, the fanbase shouldn't accept everything as holy grale of content, but it's just sickens me how one-sided the criticism is. Sure, Bay movies and Rise have plenty of problems, but I would never agree they are automatically the worst when people gloss over "gems" such as Next Mutation, 1996 Mutastone anime, Coming out of their Shells and We wish you a Turtle Christmas live-action concert/musical TV-special. Heck, now I even consider 90's movies poorly-done(except costumes) and overrated Personally, 90's were the worst time for TMNT outside of comics and 87 Red Sky seasons

@@ashesGeek Yeah not to say that Rise and the Bayverse aren't entirely bad, but they do have good aspects that makes it salvageable. And I don't think the 90's was the worst era but those specials were pretty bad and had terrible costumes. The 1st movie is perfect, the 2nd one was watered down to the point the Turtles couldn't use their weapons...but wasn't half bad, and the 3rd one is hit or miss. Next Mutation is pretty garbage to the point where I haven't even finished it yet.

@TurtleC0mic no, no, I was talking exactly that Red Sky seasons are good, season 9 is my favorite season of the whole show, Tony Jay was phenomenal as Lord Dregg. And now, since 9 months has passed and I rewatched 87 show I grew warmer to them and consider it a good and, in some ways, a misunderstood show. Besides, it gave many new characters later incarnations of which stick on me like Mona Lisa, Slash and Metalhead.
