He really is an amazing writer in the horror world. I knew he was King's son when I first started reading his work, but he has a totally original writing style, different from his father but just as frightening and brilliant.

@@radiofreealbemuth Check the video of While My Guitar Gently Weeps live, the one where Prince plays an extended (and awesome) guitar solo. One of the backup musicians on the guitar is Dhani Harrison, the son of George Harrison. If you are mistaken thinking it's a 1965 George Harrison who time traveled, you'd be excused. Carbon copy isn't even the right term. Clone is more like it.

Finally someone else who's noticed the word Actually. People use it all the time when they don't know what to say. It's replaced "um".

Hunter Harris it's amazing! I'm not going to lie, the ending really got me - Joe and his Dad are two of the few writers who have made me cry from the power of their stories. I'd really suggest it!

It's amazing how well he explains his techniques and ideology just at the tip of his tongue. Explains these things better than his father in my opinion.

Lock and Keye is really an amazing fantasy epic- Cape is another great comic (graphic novel) he wrote. In Cape, Horns and L and K he really is unafraid to gaze at the really really dark sides of his characters. He is a great character builder.

Stephen King says something similar about outlines. That they are "the best way to immortalize a bad idea." I'm sure King naturally had an immense influence on Joe during his formative/developmental yrs. But that being said I think he (Mr. Hill) certainly has his own voice, and style as well.

When both your parents are successful fiction writers, one of course being Stephen King, then the things you may do for a living have to be laid out for you. Thing is, do you choose it or does it choose you? I agree with a lot of what he says. If only I could have a fraction of the success ....

Joe Hill succeeded completely on his own merit, his agent didn't even know who he was for like 10 years. That's Why he used the pen name, because he didn't want to be compared to his dad.

Great strategy writing under a pen name instead of name dropping. That said, I'm pretty sure growing up in a household with parents who are great writers might have rubbed off on him a little. Who wouldn't ask for a tip or two from the guy in the next room who happens to be one of the most successful writers of the 20th century.

I get the sense that Joe Hill, tries to stay away as much as he can from any Stephen King references..even though he's a writer because of King. King is I think more enamored of horror, although he's done other non horror genres.

This guy 'thinks too much'. JUST FUCKING WRITE! ('Dad' has never had to 'think' anything...just sit and begin typing from the thought of "What if vampires were real? How about'other Worlds' where things have gone to shit because 'magic' has too much power there? If people have a 'spirit' that endures past physical death...what about other critters that 'think'...do they have 'souls' too? What if everything we think is 'real' is just one aspect of 'reality' because our minds can't grasp anything more?")
