In the end they deposited the same amount, so 6x = 5(x+10). Therefore, Sheila deposits $50 each time and Sherri deposits $60 each time for a total of 300 for both. Define your variable and then use it.

So I got this word problem: Plant A is 5 cm tall and growing at the rate of 3 cm a month. Plant B is 4 cm tall and is growing at the rate of 5 cm a month. When will plan B exceed the height of Plant A I don't know how to set up this equation, so I put an equal sign between them? I don't know :(

1 month. I don't think you'd set that up with an algebraic linear equation. Just make a table for plant A and Plant B for their current heights and add the cm's for the first month. A-5+3=8 B-4+5= 9 after one month. I could be wrong. Been in this cell for far too long.
