AI produces some interesting results and invents some suprising plot details. With a little help it produces a title for our novel: The Flowers of Evil: A Gothic Horror Story.
I ask ChatGPT for titles and then Google Bard and compare them. You will hear my thoughts on which is best.
All in all, I have been more impressed than I thought I would be. I think we might have a viable story here, and I'm enjoying learning about it as ChatGPT spins the yarn.
AI summary: The video discusses using AI, specifically ChatGPT and Google Bard, to write a Gothic horror novel. The writer has used ChatGPT to generate the setting, characters, and plot elements, and refers to Jordan Rosenfeld's book, "Making a Scene," to structure the novel. The writer intervenes in the AI's output at times to prompt it towards certain plot elements. They also discuss generating titles for the book and use the personas of famous Victorian-era writers to create potential titles. The video goes on to discuss the use of AI to generate the first scene of the novel and to plot the overall structure of the story in Scrivener. The writer discusses the need for tension and intrigue in the story and prompts ChatGPT towards creating these elements. Overall, the video showcases the potential of AI to assist in the creative writing process.

01:00 🤔 Intervening more in AI-generated content, prompting and leading questions, balancing creative output. 01:56 📝 AI tends to do more telling than showing, resulting in inner ruminations and feelings that may need editing. 02:48 📚 Experimenting with AI tools ChatGPT and Bard to write different types of stories. 05:18 📖 Crafting a compelling title: Collaborative process between AI and user for a Gothic Horror novel. 06:15 🤷‍♂ AI's suggestions are often corny; user intervention helps shape a fitting title like "The Flowers of Evil: A Gothic Horror Story." 08:03 🧑‍💼 Character development: Reminding AI of character backgrounds, prompting details, and refining the narrative. 09:41 📖 Utilizing established writing frameworks like "Save the Cat" for scene structuring. 13:38 👻 Incorporating supernatural elements: Painting, haunted history, and foreboding to build tension. 15:56 🪞 Merging AI-generated elements: Linking dream sequences with historical portraits for a richer narrative. 18:14 🔄 Twists and turns: Exploring AI's potential for creating suspense through character dynamics and unexpected plot developments. 19:22 🤔 ChatGPT is discussed as Genevieve's character is explored for Act One of the novel. The AI is considered an ally with a cold exterior, adding tension to the story. 20:30 📚 The title "The Flowers of Evil: A Gothic Horror Story" is introduced for the novel. The author shares the process of transferring AI-generated text from ChatGPT to Scrivener. 21:38 🔄 Inconsistencies in ChatGPT's portrayal of Genevieve are noted. The AI struggles to maintain character traits, revealing limitations in character depth and subtlety. 22:34 🖼 The AI introduces a painting and an occult book in the story, prompting the author to address inconsistencies and foreshadowing elements. The importance of subtle storytelling in gothic literature is discussed. 23:30 🧐 Questions arise about how the protagonist, Adele, heard rumors about the Chateau, leading to the creation of a pre-scene. The importance of Adele's motivations and the believability of her actions are considered. 25:04 ✂ The author struggles to achieve consistency in scenes generated by ChatGPT and resorts to combining different parts to create a coherent pre-scene. The limitations of AI in crafting fully consistent narratives are evident. 27:20 📝 Acknowledgment of the need for human editing arises. The author expresses uncertainty about ChatGPT's ability to edit and refine the narrative for a polished second draft. 28:14 💌 The author decides to use a letter of introduction as a thematic element in the story to symbolize the contract between Adele and her employer, highlighting the importance of moral choices. 29:20 📌 Despite the limitations and lack of subtlety in ChatGPT's first draft, the author acknowledges the potential of the AI as a technological tool for storytelling, emphasizing the collaboration between AI and human creativity.

Great series of videos. Really appreciate them My feeling having used ChatGpt for a week or so is that you get the best out of it (as a rough draft for a novel/novella/whatever) is by really leading it by the nose and getting it to fill in the gaps where you have uncertainty and don't know quite what to do, or what things are. Still exploring, and not criticising at all, LOL. Love this!

These videos have really opened my mind in how to communicate and engage with CHAT GPT. I was working on a novel years ago - and using CHAT GPT to help structure and develop the story, using many of these technique has resulted in MASSIVE progress. As a "TOOL" for aspiring writers I think it makes a great sounding board and research tool (and assistant - to help organise everything)

I really enjoy your videos. I'm curious, what is your strategy to write a long-form novel using Chat GPT when it comes to chapter to chapter consistency. In other words, are you simply continuing to use the same Chat thread for each writing session so that Chat GPT "remembers" everything from past conversations? Do you need to remind it where you left off? Would it make sense to copy and past the final (1st draft final) version in the thread and define that as "Chapter 1" so you an refer back to it later and also so you can have Chat GPT cross reference plot structures like Save the Cat? Just curious your thoughts...thanks for videos.

I'm working on a new book - non-fiction - based on decades of research - covers a broad spectrum of topics that recently came together in ways I didn't expect because I found several more sources that corroborated and pulled together - beyond all reasonable doubt - an in-your-face defiance of the programming and indoctrination imposed upon the public by the fake "scientific community". If been working on this since my university days and have written numerous volumes about the various aspects of the research - when suddenly the big picture came into view - like I never knew it would. Thank you for offering your help through your videos.

It is interesting. It can help writers to find first drafts and work upon them to improve. Just like a child needs an adult (GPT) to start the story, and then their imagination (human) takes over.

Just a question about the title generation: why did ChatGPT always came up with using "Chateau de Cleremont" in the title?
@classicdetective
@classicdetective Жыл бұрын
Hmm. It might be that it provided the name of the Count as Clermont and I therefore presumed that was the name of the castle.

Have enjoyed watching your experiment with AI. Very useful stuff. Thanks for doing it. Jordan Rosenfeld is a gal, though all the while I thought she was a dude when I read her book, too. Make a Scene has some very good advice.

Funnily enough. I had that book, read it, sold it. Then I bought another copy, read it. And I either never realised or forgot. Sin and Syntax was good too. That was definitely a woman who wrote it.

i actually wonder whether I've gone far enough with this experiment now and should stop, or whether people want me to actually go so far as to produce a book.

if you have the time, I think I lot of folks would love to see it all the way through. Of course, ha, we’re not the one having to produce the content! I don’t know, you have determine if you think the final book would be worth the trouble, or if you suspect the final outcome might fall too short of being worth the effort. Whatever you decide, it’s all been quite an education for us, and like someone in the comments said, I haven’t seen anyone else online that has nailed it quite like you have. So, whatever you do, it’s appreciated and immensely instructive.

It seems that Chat GPT produces a lot of cliche ridden prose and scenic elements useful maybe as an insomnia cure but not much else. "The room is dimly lit and sparsely furnished with a few antique chairs and a threadbare carpet." Not sure Chat GPT is capable of bringing this description uniquely alive. That, if the reader is to be at all engaged, requires a bit of brain-fueled talent. Not claiming I've got any, but my immediate response since we're talking "gothic" is to focus on the furniture, the dominant piece being, for example, a throne-like, intricately carved, wooden chair, the arms like twisting cobras and the head rest a screaming skull. Who cares about the carpet unless it contributes something to the tense atmosphere created by other elements in the room. A disturbing element in its design which foreshadows later events? Title suggestion "The Flowers of Evil" not bad but drop "the". My own, non AI, off the cuff, arguably more evocative suggestion: Echoes of Evil.

"These are titles created by a moron." Classic. Thank you so much for doing these, they are so very helpful. You're already seeing some of the memory limitations of chatGPT, how do you plan to overcome token limits as your work gets longer?

If you use ChatGPT to do your work for you, and you're editing the story that ChatGPT came up with from your prompts. Your editing ChatGPTs work, if you copy you must give credit or it's plagerism and fraud. Putting off ChatGPTs work as your own. #Ethics #Plagerism #ArtificialIntelligenceWriting
